Peter Robert Resedean

Peter Resedean, also known to those who loved him as Pete, Res, Petey, or Papa Pete, died peacefully in Pensacola, Florida, on June 5, 2024 in the loving care of Willowbrooke staff at Azalea Trace with Emerald Coast Hospice by his side. Pete was the oldest of five children and grew up in a suburb of Chicago. Pete always spoke fondly of how wonderful his childhood was and how much he loved growing up there. Upon graduation from high school, Pete enlisted in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. He served on active duty from July 1957 until September 1962; this is what brought him to Pensacola. He transferred to the Naval Reserve and was recalled to active duty during the Cuban/Berlin Crisis at which time he served on the destroyer USS TWEEDY as the medical representative. Pete remained in the Naval Reserve advancing to Chief Petty Officer, commissioned as an Ensign in the Medical Service Corps and advanced in rank to Commander. He retired from the Naval Reserve July 10, 1999. Pete spent most of his life as a firefighter devoting more than 30 years with the Pensacola Fire Department. He began his career in August 1962 and worked his way up, attaining the rank of Battalion Chief in January 1985. He was assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau where he was responsible for fire inspections, fire and arson investigations, plans review, public education and public relations. He was ultimately appointed Fire Chief on December 14, 1990 and served in that position until he retired December 1992. Pete was a fun-loving man and enjoyed many interests and hobbies, most of all spending time with his family. Pete and Mary were members of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. He was an original member of the Stump Fiddle Band as a master player of the shittar and performed all over NW Florida and Southern Alabama. Pete was a member of the Hadji Shrine Temple and could be seen frolicking during parades and performances with the Oriental Band as a drummer and award-winning Jester. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus (2nd degree), Moose Lodge, Krewe of Lafitte, Sons of Italy. He was the King of the Fiesta Frolickers (2017) as well as Apollo for Krewe of Aphrodite (1994). In all of these organizations and with his family and friends, he was never without a smile on his face. He was always the first to lend a hand when needed. Pete leaves his wife of almost 24 years, Mary Kaser Resedean; children, Richard M. Kaser (Lisa) and Diane Fitzpatrick (David); six grandchildren, Erika Burkett (Anthony), Kristina Franklin (Mark), Carolyn Godwin (Jake), Richard R. Kaser, David Fitzpatrick, Jr (Kayla), and Jimmy Kaser; eleven great-grandchildren, Millee, Gabriel, Maisee, Eliana, Luke, Savannah, Bobbie June, Julia, Lowyn, Colson, and Cole; siblings, Betty Lastovka (Rick), Judy Santostefano (Ben deceased), and Jim Resedean (Georgie); nieces/nephews; and grand- nieces/nephews. Parents, Peter P. Resedean and Marcella Weingart Resedean, his baby brother, Tommie, and son, Robert preceded him in death. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel North Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church with burial to follow in Barrancas National Cemetery. There will be a funeral procession from Nativity to Barrancas. Pallbearers will be David Fitzpatrick, Jr., James Kaser, Jacob Hendren, Anthony Burkett, Mark Franklin, Jake Godwin. Richard R. Kaser will act as Honorary Pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice. Fireman’s Prayer When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage, give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late, or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout, and quickly, and efficiently to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling, and to give the best in me, to guard my every neighbor and protect his property. And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life, please bless with your protecting hand my family, friends and wife. Amen.
