Paul E. Till, Jr.

Paul E. Till, Jr., 86 passed away at home next to his beloved wife and went on to dance in Heavenly Streets paved with gold on March 14th, 2012. Paul was born on November 5th, 1925 in Georgiana, AL to his loving parents Paul and Viola Till. Paul moved to Pensacola with his parents in 1947 and worked with his dad who owned Squirt bottling company on Maine St. During his younger years Paul joined the U.S. Marines and served in WWII. He was honored alongside his brothers in combat in 2009 with a trip to the Washington Memorial. Paul spent some of his early years as a district manager for the Pensacola News Journal. His early career began at the downtown U.S Post Office as a letter sorter and as a civil service Aircraft Mechanic at NAS Pensacola. He officially retired in his mid-fifties, but never stopped working. He was always fixing something; tractors, lawnmowers, computers, or any kind of techno gadget he could get his hands on. After a short period of fishing, bowling, and being a Ham radio Operator (kq4fe) he began to work a series of odd jobs such as parts delivery man, truck driver, and lawn maintenance. He settled into helping his son doing miscellaneous jobs in the construction industry. Paul was a long time member of Richards Memorial Methodist Church. He was well known for loving his family, and caring for his wife who suffers from Alzheimer’s, despite his own failing health. The last 3 years of his life he suffered from heart and kidney disease and spent 3 days a week on dialysis, never letting dialysis get him down. A typical day for Paul consisted of 4 hours of dialysis, which he drove himself to and from. Afterwards he found the energy to care for his ailing wife, Beverly, and also muster the strength to work on the yard. He never ever stopped working until the Lord called him home. Paul leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Beverly I Till. Survivors include two sons Gregory E Till (Cindy Till), Tony P Till (Susan Till), two grandchildren Nikki Hoffay (Don Hoffay), Sean Till (Melissa Till), and 5 great grandchildren (One also on the way):Jacob Trombino(Till), Gabriel Hoffay, Skyler Hoffay, Jackson Till, Owen Till, Riley Till. Sister Betty Webb (Jerry Webb). Brother in laws Ken Sumrall, L.M. Averitt Sr., Creal Godwin, Jack Godwin. Sister in laws, Pat Godwin, Lynell Godwin. Preceded in death are his parents, Paul and Viola Till, Sister Wanda Sumrall and Elizabeth Till, nephews L.M.Averitt, Jr. and Johnny Sumrall. KQ4FE signing off. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Richards Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Mullens officiating. Pallbearers will be Sean Till, Don Hoffay, Jacob Trombino (Till), Harry Grellia, Gordy Grellia, Charlie Edgar, Henry Edgar, and Scott Forster. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gabriel Hoffay and Jackson Till. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Paul E Till, Jr to Covenant Hospice, 2001 N. Palafox St., Pensacola FL 32501.
