Pamela Sue "Susie" Pitman

Pamela "Susie" Hart Pitman, 60 of Pensacola, WON her long and courageous battle with cancer on Monday, September 25, 2017. Susie was born in Pensacola, FL on September 15, 1957 to the late Everett Jackson Hart and Dorothy Lee Hart-Johnson. Susie graduated from Escambia High School in 1975 and spent the next 37 years working for West Florida Hospital and the Escambia County Health Department before retirement. Married for over 25 years, Susie and Gene Pitman, raised their 2 children, "Missy" and Marc. During that time, she was an active member of the Hadji Shrine Temple, Daughters of The Nile and Eastern Star. For the church she often played piano and taught Sunday school classes. She was a member of Olive Baptist Church which she absolutely loved and from which she drew so much comfort. In 2012 Susie was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, love and prayers from family and friends, her collection of wigs, jewelry, and purses carried her through the next five years. Even throughout her own struggle with cancer, she always took great pride in looking her best to represent God- standing as a living testimony and encouragement to others facing their own battles. She possessed a sweet and loving demeanor with a contagious smile that won the trust and hearts of many, who still now are being changed by her witness of constant unconditional love and faith. She was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers, Larry, Dewayne and Gary Hart. She is survived by Gene Pitman; two children; Michele Ruggles (Johnny) and Marcus Pitman (Dave); one grandson, Jackson Ruggles; four sisters-in-law, Helen Hart-Grant, Dianne Hart, Linda Pitman and Kay Pitman; three brothers-in-law, Richard Pitman, Douglas Pitman and James Grant; and a host of nieces and nephews. On behalf of Susie and her family, we would like to extend our gratitude to her caretaker and friend, Christine Henderson, as well as Dr. Tarek Eldawy and his team of angels at Sacred Heart Medical Group. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am (visitation 10-11am) on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Olive Baptist Church with Bro. Robert Lloyd and Pastor Avon Fowler officiating. Burial will follow services in St. John's Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.
