Mildred G. Anderson

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mildred Anna Gindl Anderson, age 94, of Pensacola, Florida on April 20, 2018. Many affectionately knew Mildred as Mom, Granny and Aunt Mildred. Mildred was a strong and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She raised four sons and one daughter. Many nights were spent at fields watching her sons play the family’s favorite game, baseball. She loved to watch the Atlanta Braves on TV and always had plenty of comments on plays and calls. Mildred was born and raised in Barrineau Park. She attended Barrineau Park Elementary and graduated from Tate High School in 1941. Mildred was an avid cook. She carried on the family tradition of cooking their favorite meals, which included chicken and oyster gumbo. Anyone that knew her was aware that Christmas meant there would be delicious Keifuls ready to eat at her home. Mildred loved Sundays because family members were at her home to enjoy her meals and swimming pool. Mildred loved gardening and shared many flower bulbs with her friends and family members. Due to her willingness to share, her memory will live on in the flowers of our gardens. Mildred served as a Registered Nurse for 42 years. She earned her nursing designation at Old Sacred Heart Hospital in 1944. She and her sister, Dorothy, attended nursing school together. Her nursing career led her to meet her husband, Douglas Kenneth Anderson, also known as “Kick,” when he was her patient at Sacred Heart Hospital. They were married for 56 years. Her career ranged as an OR nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital, an OB/GYN nurse with Dr. A. E. Mock, private duty nurse and finally to St. Regis Paper, Company, as an Occupational Health Nurse. She retired at the same facility, at that time Champion International Company, in 1989. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband Douglas Kenneth Anderson “Kick”, parents, Charles Gindl and Pauline Laritz Gindl, sister, Dorothy Gindl Lambert Casey, and brothers, Carl Gindl, Francis Robert Gindl, Peter Rudolph Gindl and Joseph William Gindl “Billy”. She is survived by her children, Douglas Kenneth Anderson, Jr., (Barbara), William Charles Anderson “Billy”, Bonnie Jean Anderson Ard (Darryl), Paul Raymond Anderson (Carmen) and Gary Gindl Anderson (Lori), and sister Mary Ann Gindl Pembroke (Dick). Mildred is also survived by her grandchildren Julie Anderson McCary (Scott), Caitlin Anderson Churchman (John), Curt Douglas Ard, Deanna Ard Anderson, Christopher Lee Anderson (Rebecca), Candice Anderson Byrd (Brian), Jason Michael Anderson, Paul Matthew Anderson, Savana Anderson Hatten (Josh), Payton Kee Anderson, and Delaney Nash Anderson and great-grandchildren Emma Caitlin McCary, Anderson Scott McCary, Welles Louise Churchman, Curt Douglas Ard, Jr., Mason Jacob Anderson, Nolan Parker Anderson, Aubree Michelle Walker, Kendall Lee Anderson, Caden Lee Anderson, Mikaylee Hope Anderson, Aidan Chad Byrd, Katie Lynn Byrd, Jason Michael Anderson, Jr, Alexa Haven Anderson, and Xara Catherine Anderson. Visitation services will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Faith Chapel South, 100 Beverly Parkway, from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m., with the Rosary following at 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Little Flower Catholic Church, 6495 Lillian Highway at 1:00 p.m., followed with a graveside service at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1300 E. Hayes Street. Pallbearers will be Curt Douglas Ard, Christopher Lee Anderson, Jason Michael Anderson and Paul Matthew Anderson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Regency Hospice, Pensacola, FL or Little Flower Catholic Church, Pensacola, FL.
