Melvyn Eugene Kahl

Melvyn Eugene Kahl – Gene, (1941-2018), 76, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 27, 2018. Gene was born on Sept. 9, 1941 in Bloomington, IN to Russell and Thelma (Seals) Kahl. Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years and 7 months, Carolyne J. (Tipton) Kahl. Gene is also survived by four sons; Christopher K. (Wanda) Kahl of Pensacola, FL, Jason T. (Lori) Kahl of Linton, IN, Clayton C. (Cassander Lee) Kahl and Waylon Andrew Kahl, both of Pensacola. Gene is also survived by four grandchildren; Nicholas (Britt) Goodman, Shawn M. Kahl, Noah C. Kahl and Anika F. Kahl of Pensacola, FL; and two sisters, Linda (Mark) Fields and Karen Sue (Darrell) Rose, both of Bloomington, IN; Special sister-in-law, Saundra Kahl, and a niece, Valerie Kahl. Several other nieces and one nephew, Katrina Kerr, Kristin (Phil) Chin and James (Darya) Rose and daughter, Sasha. Gene was preceded in death by his son Shawn D. Kahl, 14, in Oak Harbor, WA, his brother Jerry Kahl of Bloomington, IN, his father, Russell Kahl, stepmother Marjorie Kahl, his mother Thelma Seals, father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Jo Tipton. Gene’s hobbies were numerous, including being a stamp collector, baseball card collector, watching westerns, Indiana Hoosier’s basketball. He kept a beautiful yard, coached youth sports while stationed in the US Navy. Gene loved his wife and sons and especially his beautiful grandchildren. He was also a graduate of TRM University Magna Cum Laude with a B.S in Criminal Justice. One of his outstanding moments in his life was the receive the “Postman of the Year Award” for saving a life on his route. Gene was also honored as an “Angel in our Midst” by Sue Straughn’s for his work on Council on the Aging. Gene attended church at the Dwelling Place, loved church and Jesus. He now has gone to his Heavenly Home. Pallbearers will be Christopher Kahl, Clayton Kahl, Britt Goodman, Howard Murphy, Shawn Kahl and Noah Kahl. Honorary pallbearer will be Jason Kahl. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2018, from 9:30 – 10:30 AM, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. Funeral Services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, FL. FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME SOUTH, 100 Beverly Parkway, is entrusted with arrangements.
