Matthew Connor Rings

Matthew Connor Rings and his twin, Melissa Margaret, were born on May 1, 1963 in Kansas City, MO to Reed and Margaret Ann Rings. Matt loved Jesus most of all, was passionate for his beautiful and dedicated wife Toni, loved driving his corvette thru the Dragons Tail in North Carolina, the band U2, all things technical, being a small group leader with his home church North Point Community Church in Atlanta, GA, his min pin pups and faithfully serving this great land during his 27 year Navy career. Matt graduated in 1981 from Omaha Burke High School, University of Nebraska Omaha in 1985 and upon graduation from the University of Nebraska Medical School in 1993, Matt was a commissioned Lieutenant in the United States Navy. After a general surgery internship in San Diego, Matt was deployed with Marines in support of NATO off the coast of Serbia and Bosnia and then flight surgeon with the famed VF-101 “Grim Reapers” flying in F-14 Tomcats for four years. The next several years took Matt to San Diego, Okinawa, Japan and finally back to Pensacola NAMI in 2011 to start his dream job of combining ophthalmology and flight surgery, as well as being promoted to Captain. Matt had ground breaking accomplishments that included affecting aircrew vision in the Department of Defense, NASA and the Department of Homeland Security and most recently F-35 pilot helmets for years to come. He also gave excellent care to thousands of patients. His superior performance of duties highlights the culmination of 27 years of honorable and dedicated service. In the midst of life’s highs and lows, Matt wants to be remembered for his unwavering love of and trust in Jesus Christ, who became his Savior as a young boy. Matt loved others as Jesus commanded. Matt is preceded in death by his mother Margaret Ann Cox Rings and twin sister Melissa Margaret. Visitation will be on Friday, March 6 at 9am for the public, followed by a military escort to the base at 10am sharp. If you plan to attend the service, you must meet at the Faith Chapel South, 100 Beverly Parkway, Pensacola, FL and be a part of the escort, only exception military personnel. Celebration service 11am at the Naval Air Station Pensacola Chapel and burial at Barrancas National Cemetery, immediately following.
