Matthew Joseph Ouellette

Matthew Joseph Ouellette 43 passed away on Saturday September 15th, 2018 at West Florida Hospital, Pensacola, Florida after a long battle with stage 4 cancer. Matt was born on October 18th, 1974 in Coral Gables, Florida delivered by his father, an OB resident at the time. Matt grew up in Florida, graduated from Deland High School. He graduated from Rocky Mountain College in Billing Montana with a degree in Equestrian Management and was a horse trainer for many years. Matt fell in love with Wyoming on a trip there as a young boy. He never wanted to live anywhere else. The song “My Heroes have always been Cowboys” could have been written for him. He did the rodeo circuit for a few years doing bull and bare back Bronc riding. He loved doing Rodeo’s. He leaves Colleen his wife and the love of his life, a constant companion, best friend, caregiver and advocate, his daughter Madeline Gayle age 8, his son Robert Matthew age 5. His family gave him hope and strength. He was the son of Dr. Robert “Bob” (Poppy) and Jean ((Me mere) Ouellette of Sheridan, Wyoming and Wesley Chapel, Florida. He is preceded in death by his sister Jennifer Ouellette “Jem”. He leaves behind a brother Mark Ouellette and his wife Katie of Nashville, three nephews Tylor, Andrew, and Ryan. His beloved niece Abby Ouellette Roseau and her husband Brady of Bismarck, North Dakota. He also leaves his loving mother-in-law Gayle Fuhrman, brother-in-law Richard Hemenway and wife Denise of Cantonment, Florida. He leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors who loved him. Matt was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was an avid hunter, a crack shot, and loved to fish and camp. He enjoyed taking Colleen and the kids up the mountain camping whenever he could. For the past 12 years Matt worked for Spring Creek Mine as a Drag-Line Oiler and ERT member. He made so many good friends there that were a great help to his family. Matt had an irrepressible sense of humor, was generous, extremely empathetic, willing to lend a helping hand when ever needed, he was also a hard worker. He was a devoted son, loving husband, and adoring father. His family was the center of his life and they gave him strength on his fight against his caner. To the end, Matt tried to keep all of our spirits up, to reassure those who loved him that he wasn’t in the pain we knew existed. He was cared for by his wife Colleen that never left his side. Matt made such an impression on so many people. He touched so many lives. We would also like to thank the dear friends and family for their undying support, the prayers, novenas, candles, prayer groups, and many acts of kindness shown to us. We would especially like to thank Holly Name of Sheridan, the Knights of Columbus, the men and woman of Spring Creek and Cloud Peak mine, Bob and Patricia Generoux and their prayer group, his many kind friends there, our neighbors, for their prayers, acts of kindness, and of course our families without whose undying love and support we could not managed without.
