Matthew Anthony Pennise

Matthew Anthony (Teo) Pennise, a native Pensacola died peacefully in his home Saturday, October 14, 2017. He is survived by his five remaining siblings, Angelina Pennise Steiner, Norma Pennise Pardee, Stella Pennise Emmert, Lydia Pennise Smith, and Joyce Pennise Pugh, along with his three children, a son, Carmelo (Chris) Pennise, and two daughters, Marisa Pennise Reeves and Janie Pennise Coulter. He is also survived by his long-time love and companion Maureen Cobb, and her children, Julie King, Susan Payne, Elaine Cobb and John Mills. Mr. Pennise was born December 7th, 1934 to Josephine Vascuso Pennise who was the daughter of Italian immigrants, and to Captain Carmelo Pennise who was an Italian immigrant. Matthew Pennise was a retired Navy Veteran from the Korean war, and a retired commercial fisherman. The “Captain Carmelo” was named after his father. Matthew (Teo) was well known by his fellow peers in the fishing industry along the gulf coast. Matthew loved laughter, cooking, art and music. He often played piano and keyboard for the residents at various retirement and nursing homes in the Pensacola area. He also played at the VFW on Ashland Ave where he was a member. Matthew was well loved and respected by those who knew him in the community. It can be said that Mr. Pennise truly lived his life to the fullest. His light upon this earth will be deeply missed. In remembrance of Matthew Pennise, at your convenience, please visit the Pensacola Naval Air Station Lighthouse Museum. The museum has graciously displayed the Pennise family’s maritime history through detailed handmade model ships built by the family’s patriarch, Captain Carmelo Pennise, along with vintage photographs of his beautiful Sicilian family and other personal items from Captain Carmelo that make up this wonderful historic display. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. Burial will follow with Full Military Honors Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery, Pensacola, FL.
