Mary D Buckles

Mary Buckles, of Gulf Breeze, passed away April 11, 2015. She was born in Audubon, NJ on 10/15/1948 to James and Mary R. Glover and was taken to Miami at 6 weeks where she was raised. She graduated from Central High School (the Rockets) in 1966. Mary met her loving husband, Harry T. in 1980 at NAS Willow Grove, PA and they were married on 14 November 1981 at the Chapel aboard the air station. Life married to sailor required many moves from Willow Grove to Great Lakes, IL (she hated the cold) Their next move took them to San Diego and El Toro, CA; then on to New Orleans where Mary finally got a job with Civil Service for the Navy. From there, they were off to BuMed in D.C. She also worked at BuMed in the Physical Equals. Their final move was to Pensacola where she worked for the last 17 years a NAMI on the air station. There, she was awarded the Civilian of the Quarter several times and even the Civilian of the Year. She liked her job and the co-workers who surrounded her. Retiring in October of 2008, they spent the next 5 years traveling in their motorhome seeing friends and family along the way, including 11 National Parks. She also took a cruise to Italy and Greece as well as cruises to the Caribbean and Alaske and trips to Mexico. In October of 2013, she was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma and our travel was confined to Houston and MD Anderson where she had a Stem Cell Transplant. Mary was a great wife and Step-Mom and role model to Christine, Pamela, and Scott. She also has eight Grandkids and five Great-Grandkids. Mary was a loving person, no one was a stranger for longer than 3 minutes after meeting her. She was at ease with everyone she came into contact. She will be missed here on earth, and will be a joy in Heaven. Mary was a Christian; she heard God’s gentle voice telling her to take His hand and “come follow Me, this is the way.” Visitation will be Friday, April 17, 2015 from 9:00 am until the 10:00 am funeral service at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. A special friend, the Reverend Jan J. Thackeray will officiate Mary’s services. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
