Martha Frances Carr

Martha Frances Carr 1932-2017 Martha F. Carr (84) passed away on March 4, 2017 after a long illness. She will be met in Heaven by her father and mother, Gilbert and Lena Worley and her sister, Louise Macon. Martha was born in Birmingham, AL on Sept. 29, 1932 and moved to Pensacola with her family in 1948. In 1948 she met her husband Robert at a small roller skating rink in downtown Pensacola. Martha was one of the most accomplished singers of gospel and barbershop music in the south. She was a member of the Five Flags Chapter of the Sweet Adalines for many years. She was one of the founding members of the well-known quartet called The Variations, who sang throughout the south. Martha was also a charter member of the Pensa Chor Jills, a registered Quartet of the Sweet Adalines, Inc. This quartet entertained many thousands of people throughout the south. Martha also enjoyed attending her Sunday school class at both Pine Summit Baptist Church and for the last few years at Heights Baptist Church. The last several months, she really missed attending her Sunday school class at Heights Baptist Church. Martha was one of the most friendly and loving people anyone could hope to meet. Martha is survived by her husband of 67 years Robert Carr; son, Alan (Kathy) Carr; two very special nephews, Jim (Sharon) Ray of Watertown, TN and John (Nancy) Ray of Fairhope, AL; great granddaughters, Kristian Carr, Brittany Biggs and Baily Schuman; three great grandchildren; great nephew, Jamie (Jessica) Ray; and great great nephew, Jaxson Ray. Also, special friends, Margaret Boswell, Millie Faria, Barbara Mayall, Lavonia Shirley and Debi Shirley. The family will receive friends on Wed., March 8, 2017 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thurs., March 9, 2017 at the funeral home with Reverend Brian Nott officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, FL. Pallbearers will be John VeDepo, Thomas Piatak, Ben McLeod, Ronnie Sizemore, Edmund Brown and Jeff Burns.
