Marcus J. (Jake) Sturdivant

Marcus J. Sturdivant (Jake), age 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 4, 2018, after an extended illness, with his loving family by his side. Jake was born on August 10, 1936 in Bluff Springs, Florida to Curtis and Louise Sturdivant. He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1955. He then joined the United States Air Force (1955-1959), where he was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. Jake was associated with the Pensacola Regional Airport for 49 years, 25 of which were spent working for Eastern Airlines as a ticket/ramp service agent. He retired from Northwest Airlines in 2009 and spent the remaining years working in customer service for the City of Pensacola at the Pensacola Regional Airport. He was an avid NASCAR fan and airplane enthusiast, who could identify any type of airplane just by the sound. His favorite pastimes were working in his flower beds, taking pictures, collecting antiques, traveling with his family and watching the Blue Angels practice over his house. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Louise Sturdivant; stepfather, Roy Selby; brother, Don Sturdivant; parents-in-law, Eunice (Granny) and Claude (Big Daddy) Polk; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Vernon and Irene Lambert and J.C.and Charlotte Polk; sister-in-law, Dimple Polk, brother-in-law, Ray Shiver. He survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Delores Polk Sturdivant; daughter, Kristy (Mike) Davis; son, Jody (Susana) Sturdivant; two beautiful granddaughters, Allie Davis and Isabella Sturdivant; brother, Wayne (Faye) Sturdivant; sister, Linda (Melvin) Ehrich; sisters-in-law, Sue Sturdivant and Mary Jo Shiver; brother-in-law, G.C. Polk, cousin, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Ibraham, Jane and Shannon of Baptist Hospital Oncology for their many years of service and friendship, and nurse Alison of the Baptist Hospital Progressive Care Unit for her loving care and support. Pallbearers will be Gary Sturdivant, Mack Sturdivant, Terry Lambert, Mike Lambert, Jerry Lambert, Steve Shiver and Colin Shiver. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South beginning at 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service to begin at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Carl D. Shiver will be officiating.
