Lois Marie Stewart

Lois Marie Stewart, 104, Pensacola, Florida passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018. Mrs. Stewart was born on October 18, 1913 in Altha, Florida to William Jesse Peacock and Martha Jane Alexander Peacock. Lois was married to Garland M. “Pete” Stewart for over 50 years til his death. She traveled with her husband, Pete, while he was in the United States Air Force. Lois began volunteering in the 1950’s when her husband was stationed in Bermuda, serving others through the American Red Cross. Mrs. Stewart worked in the retail business, working locally at Nelson’s Dress Shop and Carmen Daniels. After her husband’s passing in 1988, Lois started volunteering at Naval Hospital Pensacola. In 1991 she began volunteering at West Florida Hospital where she continued until her 100th birthday, Friday, October 18, 2013. That morning Sue Straughn honored Lois as an “Angels in our Mist” recipient. Every Friday she carried one or two tote bags full of baked goodies and her famous cornbread casserole for the doctors, nurses and others to enjoy. In addition, Pensacola News Journal wrote an article about Lois naming her “The Cake Lady”. Lois was a very giving, caring person who always wanted to help someone – especially those in need. All of her life she gave to others and left a legacy to all who knew her. So, remember her acts of kindness and incorporate them in your lives just as Lois did. In lieu of flowers you may consider giving in memory of Lois Stewart to the local chapter of the Council on Aging or another charity of your choice. Lois was a member of East Brent Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Garland Stewart; mother, Martha Jane Alexander Peacock; father, William Jesse Peacock, stepmother, Anna Peacock; son, Wallace Stewart; daughter, Dianne Turner; son-in-law, Michael R. Redmond, MD; brothers, J. Walter Peacock, Ernest Peacock, James Peacock, Jesse Peacock, Jr. and Burl Peacock and her sister, Agnes Diamond. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Redmond; five grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; sisters, Edna Earl Kimbro (Enzor), Alice Ward, Dannie Bracewell (Joe) and Mildred Hudson. Lois’ daughter Jane wants to thank the following family members and friends for all the love, support and devotion they gave to both Jane and her mother so Lois could continue to live in the comfort of her own home until her passing: Edna Earl Kimbro, George Alexander, Mary Lormand, Lanice Rosebrough, Paula Butler, Patrice Fennell, Vonnie Kirk, Joyce Bray, Krystal Grimm, Mike Moore, Janis Hand Davison and John Griffin. Visitation will be Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Bayview Memorial Funeral Home beginning at 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Dale Patterson will be officiating.
