Laurence "Laurie" Neeb

Born in New Orleans, LA, and raised in Metairie. She is daughter of Alcee P. Neeb and Lucy Resweber Neeb, and sister of Lucy Marie Neeb, all predeceased. Laurie was a teacher/band director for 35 years. Thirty years at Brentwood Jr. High/Middle School in Pensacola, FL. Others in England and Reserve, La. She also conducted bands travelling through Europe in summers. Laurie continued travelling to Europe and many other countries and even taking her mother with her twice in search of roots of family. Laurence received her Bachelor’s Degree from Loyola University in New Orleans, in 1952, and her Master’s Degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL, in August, 1956. When she moved to Pensacola, she belonged to all National, State and local Professional organizations. She served as State and Southern Division Chairman, President-Elect and President of the National Women’s Director Association. She has served as guest conductor and adjudicator, clinician and speaker in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida, and band judge in Tokyo, Japan, with 10 directors from Florida. She was involved with the Fulbright Exchange Program in Germany. Laurie was selected as one of 10 Band Directors in the Nation in a special salute “They are Making America Musical”. After her retirement in 1986, Laurie travelled even more. A God-given good life full of what she loved and wanted to do – travel: 5 continents and many countries and islands – taking in as much as she could. She also loved art and revived her interest in watercolor and painted. Another love was sports, playing and watching. New Orleans Saints football, her favorite. Was and holds a charter member card of the “Who Dats”. She played tennis, baseball, swimming, water skiing, golf, sailing, horseback riding, jogging, snow skiing and cross-country skiing. She loved animals. Had dogs and Siamese cats. So many “loves” she had – family and friends besides her work and conducting, meeting and making friends and trying to hang on to older and far away ones – Ruth Donsa Fontenelle in LA, Betty Amich, Jo Ann Kelly, The Mager Family and many others. My very special German friend and travelling companion, “Inge” - Ingeborg Gutenberg and daughter, Andrea. Also, many other German friends. Also leaving behind cousins in Texas, Donald Resweber and families, Port Arthur, TX, Ileana and Larry McPhillips and family, also of Port Arthur, Willis Gary and Family of Boston, MA, Prentiss Gary and family of Groves, TX, Karen Gary Primeaux of Port Arthur, TX. In New Orleans, David Neeb and family, Phyllis Neeb Lightell and family and Phil Neeb III and family. Laurie loved life and laughter. She laughed a lot and lived her life to the fullest. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Pensacola. Visitation will be Saturday, March 13, 2021, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, at St. Paul Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00. Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM. Reverend Father Craig Smith will be Celebrant.
