Laura Frances Buchanan

Laura left the trials and troubles of this world behind and went to her eternal home in heaven on Monday, April 8, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Winner, SD, and grew to young womanhood in the Kansas City, Missouri area living on the farm with her family. Subsequently, she moved to Philadelphia, PA., where she lived with her two sisters and mother for over thirty years. She worked many years as a Travel Agent, which enabled her to travel extensively, checking out the accommodations of various, vacation Cruise Ships. She retired in 1991 and moved to the warmer climate of Pensacola at the behest of her brother and his family. She was an active member of Saint Mary Catholic Church on Van Pelt Lane and engaged in numerous activities including The Woman’s Study Group and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She also belonged to her neighborhood ‘Care Bears’ group along with special friends, Clara & Bill Norsworthy. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary B. McNulty Buchanan; father, James J. Buchanan and seven siblings. She is survived by her brother, Tom Buchanan of Pensacola; six nephews; four nieces, including special Niece, Sue Ellen Dumstorff of Bellevue, IL. and many other relatives and friends who will miss her greatly. The family wants to extend grateful thanks to the staff members at The Sterling House, assisted living facility, which were like an extended family as they cared for Laura in her final months. Visitation will be held from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Thursday, April 11, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South, 100 Beverly Parkway, with the Rosary recited at 6:00PM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Dominic Phan Sa, Friday, April 12, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 401 Van Pelt Lane, Pensacola, FL. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Tonganoxie, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Regency Hospice, 50 Beverly Pky, Suite 200, Pensacola, FL., 32505, in recognition of their superb level of physical and spiritual support during Laura’s extended illness.
