Kevin Michael Hugenroth

Kevin Michael Hugenroth, age 57, of Pensacola Florida, died on May 17, 2023, at his home in Pine Forest. Mike was born on August 5, 1965, to Norbert and Louise Hugenroth. He grew up the youngest of three, briefly living abroad in his younger years while his father served in the Navy. The family returned to Pensacola where Mike grew up riding his dirt bike, playing baseball, and rehabbing muscle cars. Summers were spent at his mother's family farm in Paris, Arkansas discing, harvesting, tending irrigation lines, and visiting with his relatives. Mike graduated from Pine Forest High School in 1983. Mike was a true patriot. In June 1983, after high school graduation, he joined the Marine Corps Reserves with his best friend, Jack. He went to basic training, as all Marines do, at Paris Island, South Carolina. He ended up in infantry as the communications operator in his unit, serving a tour at 29 Palms California. The Corps could not come up with an aviation billet for Mike, so in October of 1988, he jumped ship and went into the Navy after they assured him of avionics training. He headed off to Navy boot camp in Great Lakes, Illinois, which was a piece of cake for him after the Marine Corps boot camp. He completed the Avionics Training pipeline in December of 1989 and reported to his first assignment in Attack Squadron 22 (VA-22). He wasn’t there long before moving to Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 33 (VAQ-33) out of Key West, Florida in April of 1991. This is when he took up scuba diving and became a master diver. In October of 1993, he transitioned over to helicopters and sequenced through a series of helicopter squadron assignments with increasing roles and responsibilities. These squadrons included Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 40 (HSL-40), HSL-51, HSL-46, and HSL-42. These tours took him to Mayport, FL, Yokosuka, Japan, Jacksonville, FL, and included a couple of deployments on a destroyer and aircraft carrier. His final tour of duty was with Strike Fighter Squadron 11 (VFA-11) out of NAS Oceana, Virginia. Mike retired as a Senior Chief, ATCS Kevin Michael Hugenroth on August 31, 2009, with a total of 26 years of service. Mike retired with the same rank as his dad who had retired in 1979 as an AZCS. Mike has two sons, Seth (20) and Kyle (19) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and two (step) children, Shade (22) and Jessie (14) of Pensacola, Florida. On December 23, 2013, Mike married his wife, Jessica, also from Pensacola. They built a new home together where Mike cared for his blended family with devotion. He never out-grew his love for traveling, his pets, or riding fast roller coasters. Besides hosting family get-togethers, he also enjoyed working on his vintage Chevrolet truck, beekeeping, and maintaining the nicest yard on the street. Mike lived life as a routine perfectionist, committed to his job at NASP as an avionics mechanic for the T-6 squadron, and also as a committed partner and family patriarch. His consistency in care for mundane tasks was unwavering as was his meticulous attention to detail. He was continuously mindful of those he carried for. Whether a loved one needed help with a mechanical problem, or if they were celebrating a special day, Mike was there with the same enthusiasm to offer congratulations, a listening ear, subtle satire, or a practical solution. Personal sacrifice to help others was a way of life - Mike put his back behind his words. Mike is predeceased by his parents, Norbert and Louise Hugenroth. He is survived by his wife, Jessica Hugenroth; brother, Randy Hugenroth; sister, Brenda Yeagle; his four children; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. All will miss him dearly.
