Julia Adelaide Walker

Judy Walker, age 85, died peacefully at her home in Homestead Village during the early morning hours of January 22, 2021. She and Harry, her husband of 67 years, have been residents there for about five years, where she has received the most loving and personal care through every stage of her debilitating dementia. Judy was born on October 23, 1935 and spent most of her life in Pensacola. She graduated from Pensacola High School in 1953 and on July 7, 1953, married William Harry Walker from Muskogee, Oklahoma. Because of Harry’s USAF service, they relocated for about three years before moving back to Pensacola to raise their four children. When her children were school age Judy began working for Escambia County Schools and did so until her retirement in 2001. She spent the better part of her working time as the “Attendance Lady” at W.J. Woodham High School. Former students recognized her for years and she quite often could recall them, their parents, and their attendance record (!) until her condition sadly and slowly robbed her of all of the stories she so loved to tell. Harry and Judy were very active members of East Brent Baptist Church for over twenty years. Judy taught ladies her own age in Sunday School for most of the time she attended church there. The group of close friends aged together and were bonded by their shared passion for Jesus Christ and His word. Harry remembers Judy calling every class member on Saturday morning and talking for as long as each one needed. She studied her lesson diligently every Saturday night. Among the many, many collections in the Walker house, well-worn Bibles were a constant reminder of an unwavering devotion to her Christian faith. Judy is survived by her husband, Harry, her four children: Cindi (Scott) Manley, Roswell, GA; Harry Walker II, Pensacola; and Suzanne (Scott) McCullough, Pawley's Island, SC. She was preceded in death by another son, John Walker, and his surviving wife, Cindy, Pace, FL. She was ”Memaw” to eight grandchildren: Madison Walker, Pensacola; Jackson Manley, Glen Burnie, MD; Jordan Walker, Jurupa Valley, CA; Harry Walker III, Pensacola; Morgan (Preston) Ingram, and great grandmother to their baby daughter, Sloane, Northport, AL; Sarah McCullough, Minneapolis, MN; and Marissa Walker, Pensacola. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Mitchell Manley, Roswell, GA. Judy’s beloved mother, Julia Jackson Rhodes, preceded her in death, but she is survived by two sisters: Jan (Wayne) Born and Linda (Terry) Dortch, both Pensacola, as well as their combined six children, and a host of friends and extended family locally and across the country. Although we are certain that she is, at this moment, in the place that she had always longed to be, we will continue to miss her smile, her laugh, her warmth toward anybody and everybody around her. A memorial service will be held March 26, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home.
