Joyce Irene Sherman

Joyce Irene Sherman, 81, of Pensacola, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at home, surrounded by family. Joyce was born in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Hugh Andrews and Doris (Stone) Andrews. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Benn Sherman, of Pine City, NY. Joyce served our country as a US Navy spouse for nearly 25 years while raising three children. She and the family spent time living in various duty stations around the country, including, but not limited to, Tennessee, Maryland, California, Virginia, and Florida. Of the multiple locations, Joyce felt most at home in Pensacola, where she has lived since 1986. Regardless of their assigned navy base, Joyce was committed to returning to Pennsylvania to visit. In addition to raising her family, often solo while her husband was on sea duty, Joyce spent some time as a hairdresser but much of her time as a teacher’s aide, where her kindness and love for children helped so many. Joyce was incredibly generous with her time and energy, not only with her family but also with her friends. She would never hesitate to help anyone, regardless of who they were, and her generosity stretched far and wide. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she was always excited about the opportunity to spend time with them. She was known as the best homemade donuts and Christmas cookie maker, and she engaged each grandchild and great-grandchild in the activity, always letting the kids do the frosting! In her retirement, Joyce had a passion for home decorating, spending time at the Legion and the Moose Lodge with Noah Franklin, her companion of 38 years, and many of her friends known as her Sisters’. Joyce loved to sing karaoke and also enjoyed trips to Biloxi. Besides Noah, Joyce is survived by her sister Jeanne Anderson of Millerton, PA; her loving children, Charlene and her husband Jerry Erickson of Pensacola, Marilyn Ferrer of Pensacola, and Benn and his wife Lisa Sherman of Attleboro, MA; six grandchildren, Misty and her husband Brandon Edwards, Justin Stanley, Marisa and her husband Alex Morales, Savanna Ferrer, Benny Sherman and Jacob Sherman, as well as four great-grandchildren – Jackson Edwards, Jace Edwards, Alex Morales and Louie Morales. Ms. Sherman’s visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 1000 S. Hwy 29, Cantonment, FL. The interment will be private.
