Joyce J. Canedy

The life of Joyce Janet Canedy is highlighted with loving service to her family, others, and the Lord Jesus Christ. She was born September 8, 1931 in Burlington, Vermont. She was a devoted wife and best friend to Lee, her husband of 68 years, and she always put family first. She became a Christian in 1954 at a Billy Graham Crusade in Germany while Lee was stationed there when in the Army. She lived her life for Christ from that time on. As a young person she knew she wanted to help others, so she began nurses training. Although circumstances prevented her from completing this pursuit, the passion for ministering to the physical needs of others continued. She was a caring stay-at-home mom to her two daughters before she began working as a nurse's aid in a nursing home. This experience led her to become an aid to those in need who lived at home. She eventually began working in a marketing department of a Christian organization. All through these years she pursued the Great Commission to tell others about Jesus Christ and His wonderful salvation from sin for those who would believe. She taught Sunday School, worked in Vacation Bible School, and volunteered as a camp counselor. For many years she held a Good News Club in her home through which dozens of children passed who heard the clear Gospel of Jesus Christ. In her retirement years she returned to the nursing home as a volunteer where she would teach the Bible, read interesting stories, make crafts, and share some exciting experiences of her own life. She loved to make crafts and she was a gifted seamstress. Later in her life she pursued her talents in art and poetry which reflected her devotion to the Lord. Her legacy is her passion for the Lord and that others might know Him. On January 9, 2021, she went to be with her Lord. She is preceded in death by her father, Walter Worsley; her mother, Bertha Paquin Worsley and Her sister, Madeline Kimball. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Lee Canedy; sister, Virginia Martinelli (Permo); daughters, Becky Clark (Jim) and Beth Rice (Andy); granddaughters, Crystal Craven (Andy) and Heather Collin (Lewis); grandson, A.J. Rice (Nicole), Daniel Clark (Emily) and Jonathan (Erin) and 15 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers please send contributions to Institute for Creation Research.Icr.org.
