John T. Spence

John T. Spence, age 90, of Pensacola, Florida died on Monday, April 13, 2015, from complications from pneumonia in Georgia. Mr. Spence (and his wife, Elizabeth) was living in Georgia to be close to his daughter. He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Spence; daughter and son-in-law, Nora Spence Roy and her husband, Bernie of Lawrenceville, GA; two grandsons, Jonathan and Kristen Roy and their two children, Copper and Easton all of Flowery Branch, GA; B.J. and Melissa Roy and their four children, Hudson, Halle, Hannah and Henry all of Dacula, GA; sister, Pat Watson and her husband, Penny of South Hill, VA; two brothers, Ivey Spence and his wife, Anna and Jack Spence and his wife, Junnie all of Richmond Hill, VA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends in Pensacola. Mr. Spence was born in Richmond Hill (Ways GA), Georgia on March 7, 1925 to Ellie Davis Spence and Ivey LeRoy Spence Jr. He attended high school in Richmond Hill and entered the United States Navy on September 29, 1943 and was honorable discharged as a Seaman First Class after serving almost three years, He was a farmer most of his life and was known as “Farmer John”. He was in the insurance business for a number of years with the Connay-Spence Agency. Mr. Spence’s most rewarding job was as a self-employed furniture store owner where he sold and bought used furniture for military personnel that were stationed at Barrancas Naval Air Station. He and his wife, Elizabeth enjoyed their many friends and naval personnel in Pensacola. Mr. Spence will be deeply missed by his beloved family and many friends. A graveside service honoring the Life of John T. Spence will be held Friday, April 17, 2015 at 10:15 a.m., at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida with Naval Military Honors.
