Jean Quarrier (Oldmixon) Elpers

Jean Quarrier Oldmixon Elpers went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 23, 2012. The youngest of eight children and a native of Escambia County, Jean was an extraordinary woman with many gifts and talents. She became a full time homemaker after being employed for 16 years with the County Court system. Her active and tireless committee and board of director activities included: Center for Independent Living; Homestead Village; Catholic Charities of NW Florida; Employment of the Handicap; Baptist Hospital; and West FL Regional Planning Council. She was a charter member of the Pensacola Pen Wheels. Her physical difficulties in no way impaired her from enjoying life to its fullest. She loved time spent outdoors at her beloved Gulf beaches and cherished all the times she spent with her huge family and many, many close friends. We shall all feel the void left in our hearts from her physical departure but each of us will be filled with the individual memories we have of the times we spent in her inspiring presence. Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Oldmixon; father, Fletcher Quarrier; mother, Emma Peake Quarrier; sisters: Anita, Nell, Mina, Lela; brother, Fletcher. She is survived by husband, John Elpers; daughter, Eva Mathews; granddaughter, Jessica Mathews, sisters, Daisy Durant and Jane Moloney Jean had many, many, many beloved nieces and nephews - and her special 'son,' Kevin Pass. Her love for them all was extraordinary and unconditional. She also was blessed with many faithful friends throughout her life and enjoyed the time she spent in their company. Pallbearers will be Irmie S. Resmondo, John C. Pfeiffer, Paul E. Durant, Joseph S. Durant, John F. Moloney, and Mark R. Langlois Honorary pallbearers will be Ellis F. Quarrier, Dillon Broxon and William Johnson. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 1:00 pm with Interment immediately following at Bayview Memorial Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Life Center after interment. The family wishes to express their thanks to all her recent doctors, nurses, and staff for their gentle kindness to her in her last days and to all her caregivers that took such good and kind care of a wonderful woman.
