Jean Olsen Green

Jean Olsen Green our loving, caring, compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister was called home to paradise on October 23rd, 2012 to await the coming of our Lord. Jean was born December 29, 1934 in Pensacola, Florida to Olie Andrew Olsen and Myrtice Arlela Bell Olsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bobby Lamar Olsen, Olie Andrew Olsen III, and Clyde Albert Baker. She is survived by her adoring husband of 59 years John, her only daughter Sherry Herring and son-in-law Quent, her two cherished granddaughters Staci Herring and Jeni Jacobs and grandson-in-law Jeff and two 'perfect' great granddaughters Kate and Rebecca. She is also survived by her beloved sister Sally A. Jones and brother-in-law Richard, her nephews Richard William Jones III and wife Tonya and great nieces and nephew Katie, Gracie, and Will, and her nephew John Rusell Jones and wife Becky and great niece Jessica. Jean was a long time member of the Pensacola Boulevard Church of Christ where she taught bible classes, hosted teen activities, and opened her heart and home to many. A truly classy lady, loved by all who knew her, will be deeply missed. Her absence will create a void in our lives that cannot be filled. To know 'our Jean' was to be her friend. She cared for her friends deeply and always showed a genuine interest in the things important in their lives. She especially enjoyed meeting strangers who appeared to her to be in need of a friend. She made friends everywhere she went including a group of special people she met at her favorite dining place. God just blessed 'our Jean' with the wonderful ability to connect with people and make them feel good. Next to God, her family was most important to her. She and her husband John had a wonderful marriage built on friendship, respect, and a beautiful and unconditional love of each other. She was very close with her only daughter Sherry and never a day went by that she didn't talk to her or one of her granddaughters or great granddaughters all of whom live in Jacksonville. She so much loved to keep up with all their lives. Jean spent most of her life as a homemaker doing the things that were most important in her life, but for a time she worked in the Escambia school system as a substitute teacher. She also worked in her early married life as an executive secretary of the American Red Cross in Santa Rosa County. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank her church family and friends and the many medical personnel at Sacred Heart Hospital who gave much loving care to 'our Jean' in her final days. A special thanks for the exceptional care and personal concern given by Dr. Gotthelf, Dr. Bercz, Dr. Tan, and Dr. Schmitz. A memorial service will be conducted at Faith Chapel North on November 3rd, 2012, at 10:00 am.
