Janet Lee Olson

On Friday, August 25th Janet Olson received her wings and went to walk with her Lord and Savior at the age of 87. She went peacefully with her family by her side. Janet (or Jan to those that she was close to) was born in Massachusetts to the parents of Canadian immigrants, on November 26, 1935. As one of three children, she took on the responsibility of helping to care for her siblings when her mother passed of breast cancer when she was only 18 years old. She held numerous jobs over the course of her life, but the one that she took the most pride in was when she worked at the Redfield State Hospital, for mentally handicapped individuals. She often told stories of the patients there who touched her heart. Family was incredibly important to Jan, and she was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She doted on her family and was happiest when she was surrounded by her loved ones. She also instilled the value that family did not have to include those that were only blood related. Jan was strong-willed and stubborn at times, but she also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. She loved to play pranks on her family and tell corny jokes. She was generous, had a huge heart, and a soft spot for all animals. She was as brave as she was strong as she was a breast cancer survivor. She was fiercely loyal, and always ready to defend those that couldn’t defend themselves. She was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained from her life experiences. Jan was preceded in death by her late husbands, Oscar “Ollie” Olson and Leonard Larsen; as well as by her daughter and son in law Bonnie and Dene Driggers. She is survived by her daughters Pam Kimber and Lesa (David) Qualls, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Jan will be missed by many. Please join us as we celebrate this amazing woman’s life on Sunday, September 3rd at Bellview Baptist Church in Pensacola at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, 1000 South Highway 29, Cantonment, is entrusted with arrangements.
