James Burton Hearn

James Burton Hearn entered this world on October 25, 1957, in Pensacola, Florida, and joined his heavenly Father on June 30, 2021. James was one of 4 children born to George Robert Hearn, Sr. (deceased) and Elizabeth Catherine Schifko Hearn (deceased). James is preceded in death by his brother George Lynn Hearn, Jr. James is survived by his wife, Marti K. Stevens Hearn; his sons, Brandon Michael Nesmith (Claire) and Nicholas James Nesmith (Brittany); sisters Debi Jernigan (Mike) and Mary Woodward (Robert); stepchildren, Marek Penland (Laise), Marisa Penland, and Joshua Tharp; two grandsons, Ian Nesmith and Ethan Nesmith. James is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Although James was a disabled Army Veteran, he never let that slow him down in his volunteer activities that span the last 16 years! He won many awards for his outstanding volunteer services including: the 2017 Senior Champion Volunteer presented by Pensacola Mayor Ashton J. Hayward. In 2019 he was recognized by Department of Veterans Affairs for serving 1,189 hours and 10 years of voluntary service to veterans through the Voluntary Service Program at the VA Medical Center, Pensacola, FL. He was involved in many other community service organizations: United Way (RSVP), Salvation Army, American Cancer Society, Alfred Washburn Center serving Pensacola Homeless, Northwest Florida Area Agency on Aging and many more. His participation in fraternal organizations including: Knights of Columbus (St. Judes) founding member, St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Funeral Sacristan and member of Moose Lodge 557, Elks Lodge – Warrington, American Legion, UWF Leisure Learning (Board Member). His wife Marti, found her soulmate for life in their shared love of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Their common bond as UWF graduates included their love of people, sports, travel and adventure. His sons, Brandon and Nicholas shared a deep love and respect for their father. They reflect on his exemplary life of sacrificial service to others. Anyone who met him knew him to be full of life and was the socialite in any social setting. He adored his beautiful wife, Marti, and cherished any time spent with his children and grandchildren. James followed the military code of conduct and his love of God and country with all he met. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 7, 2021, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, with Rosary recited at 6:00 PM. Funeral Services will be Thursday, July 8, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at St. Paul Catholic Church. Reverend Father Craig Smith will be Celebrant. Graveside services will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS, Pensacola, with Full Military Honors, at 1:00 PM.
