James Edward Tate III

James Edward “Ed” Tate III 1941-2016 James Edward “Ed” Tate III, age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 22, 2016. He was born September 3, 1941 in Atlanta, GA and grew up in Camden, AL. He received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Samford University (formerly Howard College) where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and Phi Beta Chi (pharmacy). He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Kendrick Tate of Cantonment, FL; his daughter, Laura and her husband, Doug Hackney of Spanish Fort, AL; a son, James Edward “Jay” Tate IV of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Libby and her husband, Marvin “Sam” Hall (Col USMC-ret) of Alexandria, VA. He is predeceased by his parents, James E. Tate, Jr. and Jo Miller Tate Taflinger; and a brother, Joseph Tate. He and Carolyn celebrated their 50th. wedding anniversary in 2013. They are long standing members of First Baptist Church of Pensacola where Ed served as a Deacon; he also served as a pharmacist on a medical mission team to Peru. He practiced pharmacy for over 50 years. He served twice as President of the Escambia County Pharmacy Association (ECPA) and was recognized twice as that organization’s Pharmacist of the Year. He taught as an adjunct professor in the pharmacy technician program at Pensacola Junior College. Ed proudly served as 1st responder during Hurricane Katrina, the World Trade Center after the 9/11 attacks in 2001, Haiti Earthquake and various other disasters across the nation. In 2013 he received the FL-1 DMAT Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also a member of the SAR and SCV. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with Ross Langford officiating. Interment will be held at Bayview Memorial Park at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to services.
