Harold Garrett

Harold L. Garrett, 74, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on July 6, 2013. Harold was born April 18, 1939 in Pensacola, FL to Edward and Bertha Garrett. He was a lifetime member of First Pentecostal Church of Pensacola, where he became the first organist at age 14. He attended Pensacola Junior College, University of West Florida and graduated from University of Tulsa, 1962, with a BS/BA degree in Business. His career began operating his family grocery business. As an insurance agent he earned LUTCF designation in 1987 and later became a licensed Mortgage Broker. As a notary public, since 1962, he performed innumerable unique wedding ceremonies. Harold was well known and loved in Pensacola. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, National Association of Accounting, Associate Public Accountants, Chairman of President’s Club, Pensacola Chamber of Commerce, Charter President of Shoreline Singles Civitan Club, Pensacola Press Club-Treasurer, Florida Junior Miss-Treasurer, Tiger Bay Club, member PALU since 1980 and participated in Executive Toastmasters. Harold had a big appetite for life and lived it to the fullest, truly an inspiration to all. His gift of dry wit often disguised his heartfelt concern and desire to help his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his children, Leah Garrett, Jonathan and Tanya Garrett; grandchildren, Jordan, Cain, Miles and Aiden; brother, Charles and Diane Garrett; sister, Carrie and William Farrow. He was a loving son, brother, doting father and grandfather, devoted to his friends who celebrated his rich wonderful life. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 11:00 am, both will be held at First Pentecostal Church, 6500 North “W” Street, Pensacola, under the direction of Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. Rev. Troy Shurte and Rev. Brian Kinsey officiating. Burial: Bayview Cemetery Mausoleum. Harold’s wishes are portrayed in the old hymn, don’t spend your money on flowers, “Just One Rose Will Do”.
