Gloria Gulledge Baggett

Gloria Baggett received her angel wings and flew into Heaven on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at the age of 87. She lovingly joked that she would be 6’ tall as opposed to her earthly height of 4’9” and planned to sing like a bird upon reaching the pearly gates. Gloria was born on April 3, 1936, in Pensacola, Florida to the late William (“Bill”) and Mary Lea Gulledge. In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her beloved husband, (“Robert L. Baggett Sr.”) of 65 years and his parents Lloyd and Lois Baggett; her brother (“Jerry R. Gulledge”); her Grandson (“Forrest Maier Edgar”); and her son-in-law (“Forrest B. Edgar, “Pete”). Gloria graduated from Tate High School. She then married the love of her life, and they started their family soon after. She and Robert were members of Richard Memorial Methodist Church, Farm Hill Methodist Church, and charter members of St. Luke United Methodist Church. Gloria was a library clerk for Escambia County School District and spent 29 years at Wedgewood Middle School where she retired. Several years later she and Robert decided to move to Azaela Trace. Gloria was quite the card shark and enjoyed playing with her friends at the retirement home which suited Robert just fine as he enjoyed using this time to catch up on his rest. Gloria was a member of the Garden Club and spent countless hours in her garden before moving to Azaelea Trace where those things were already taken care of. She loved her little porch area where she could sit with her constant companion, her cat named “Bud”. She was proud to say that she rescued him, and they quickly became the best of friends. Bud was always by her side even until she took her last breath. He is now with family as we made that promise to her. If anyone knew Gloria, they would know she always had a camera in her hands no matter what the occasion or where she was. There are many photo books, especially of the grandchildren, and thousands of pictures of every gathering our family ever had. Her photos were breathtaking and there is no doubt she could have been a professional photographer, but she just truly had a love for it and it was her favorite hobby. Gloria is survived by her 3 children, Vicki Baggett Hinson, Cynthia Baggett Edgar, and Robert L. Baggett Jr.; her grandchildren, April Edgar Blackwell and Kristen Arnold Frazier (Clif); her great grandchildren, Quent Blackwell, Meadow Edgar, Willow Edgar, Ellie Edgar, and Kylea Gibbs; and granddaughter-in-law, Melanie Edgar. We the family have no doubt that she has rallied her loved ones gone before her and began work on her garden in Heaven. She was a mighty force and proved that big things can come in small packages. Fly high Momma and Nan and we will see you again and all the beautiful work you will have completed. Funeral services will be Friday, October 27, 2023, at St. Luke United Methodist Church on Nine mile Road with visitation at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m. Interment will occur immediately following services in the prayer garden at St. Luke.
