Glenda Sue Davis

Early on Sunday morning Sept. 27, 2015 Glenda was ushered into the presence of God and her Savior Jesus Christ. She was at her home resting peacefully when the Lord took her home. She was 69 years old. Glenda was born in Ellijay, Georgia, on February 7, 1946. She was the daughter of Hazel Tuck and Riley Green. She had one brother “Buddy,” Green of Dalton, Ga., and two sisters, Angie Murowski of Indiana and Tonda Christensen of Illinois. Glenda married the love of her life, Henry “Mac” McNoel Davis also from Ellijay, Georgia, on November 23, 1964. Glenda and Mac were married in Ringgold, Georgia, and moved north to the Chicago area in 1965. Here Mac and Glenda raised their three boys: McNoel “Little Mac,” Joseph “Tony,” and Jason. While raising the boys, Glenda worked as a customer service representative for the new Sam’s Club that opened up in Chicago Heights. This was near where they lived in the little town called Sauk Village, Illinois. She excelled in the customer service department because everyone up north loved to hear her “Southern” accent on the phone. It was during the early years of their marriage that Glenda and Mac came to know the Lord Jesus as their Savior. The First Baptist Church of Sauk Village became their spiritual home. Here, Glenda served her Savior as a teacher, nursery worker, and custodian, and participated in the ladies’ softball team. She was the star pitcher for the team and one of their best hitters. After Mac retired from Ford Motor Company in 1994, they moved south to Cantonment, Florida. Here, Mac and Glenda served the Lord at Cross and Crown Baptist Church. Glenda once again faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, and soul-winner. She became a grandmother “Maw Maw Davis” to fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild and another great-grandchild on the way, all of whom she loved dearly. When Mac went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2005, Glenda continued to serve the Lord and her family for over ten more years. Although she missed her husband she devoted herself to her family and to her church where she lived her life fully. She enjoyed spending special times “antiquing” with her friends, watching her grandchildren excel in sports, and going on special outings with them. She will be deeply missed not only by her loving family and friends, but by her church family as well. Glenda was preceded in death by her husband, Henry McNoel “Mac” Davis and her son, McNoel “Little Mac” Davis. Glenda is survived by her father, Riley Green; her brother, “Buddy” Green and her two sisters, Angie Murowski, and Tonda Christensen. She is also survived by her two remaining sons, Joseph “Tony” and his wife Debbie, and Jason Davis and his wife Wendy. Also surviving their “Maw Maw” are fourteen grandchildren: Joshua Davis, Hailey Smith, Elisa Witherspoon, Aaron Davis, Justin Davis, Esther Davis, Heather Davis, Abigail Davis, Emily Davis, Jason Davis, Caleb Davis, Phillip Davis, Chloe Davis, Julia Davis and two great grandchildren : Eli Newsome and Gabriel Witherspoon (due Feb. 3, 2016). Visitation will be held at Cross and Crown Baptist Church, Wednesday, September 30, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Cross and Crown Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Joe Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Eastern Gate Cemetery.
