Mom’s Obituary My Mom, Geraldine (Jean) Thompson was born in McKenzie Alabama, September 4, 1933. She had 8 siblings and is survived by two Brothers, Melvin Folmar and Maynard Folmar and one Sister, Oleta Smith, along with many nieces and nephews. My Dad (Selmer Thompson) and Mom had two children, Cathy Thompson and Roger Thompson. Dad passed away in 2006 and my Sister passed away in 2009. Dad and Mom retired from their business in 1989 and enjoyed many years of enjoyment before passing. My Mom was an incredible person. She was first and foremost the best Mother that anyone could ask for. She loved people, especially children. Growing up and even into our adulthood, the friends of my Sister and I always wanted to be at my parent’s home. They all considered my Mom their second Mom. She treated everyone that entered her home as “Welcomed Family”. She was a member of Beulah Freewill Baptist Church in Pensacola for decades and she was a devout Christian and loved her church family. Mom was a very caring and considerate person. She cared about her family and friends unconditionally. She had a big heart and she always made sure that she told you that “She loved you” whether it was a phone conversation or in person. Most everyone fell in love with my Mom almost instantly when they met her. Her warmth and caring came naturally to her. And as in true Southern style, she wanted to feed everyone when they came to her home. She was an excellent cook and wanted visitors to never leave without having had something to drink and eat. My Mom had to leave her home permanently the week before Christmas 2018. It had to be the hardest thing for her to have to go through. Her health had declined and she needed care 24/7. Her new home became Homestead Village in Pensacola, where she resided until her death October 18, 2019. She passed away on the date that my Father was buried in 2006. Even going through this ordeal, she still tried to make people feel comfortable and welcomed. The staff at Homestead took great care of my Mom and she told them regularly how much she loved them and how much she appreciated everything they did for her. I sincerely believe that my Dad came to take her home with him that Friday. They were married 56 years when he passed and they had never been apart more than a few days in the whole time they were married. Even after 56 years, they were still very much in love and expressed their love often. My Mom will be, and already is, missed by her family and friends. She left a vacant spot in many of our hearts. That said, she is no longer trapped in her earthly body and is with the Lord, her family, and friends that have gone before her. Mom, “I LOVE YOU”. (Mom loved her church and it is growing quickly, especially with youth, so they are expanding. She loved that so many young people were coming to the church and experiencing God’s love)
