F. Vernice Mitchell

F. Vernice Thompson Mitchell went to be with the Lord on April 5th, 2024. She was a native of East Tennessee and lived most of her life in Pensacola, Florida. Vernice attended Meigs High School in Decatur, Tennessee, Pensacola State and Troy State Colleges. Vernice was a faithful member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. She retired from Escambia County Transit after 20 years. Faith, family, and friends were so important to her, and it was evident in how she lived her life. She loved working in her gardens and her flowers brought her much joy. Vernice spent many years attending her granddaughter, Kalyn’s softball games and is loved by many of the girls on the team. Vernice is proceeded in death by her beloved husband, W. H. (Bill) Mitchell; grandson, Joseph Adam Mitchell; parents, Reverend and Mrs. Fred M. Thompson; sisters, Helen McPheeters, Hazel Crabtree, Mildred Grayson Snyder, and Betty June Thompson; brothers, Curtis Thompson, Zack Thompson, and Rex Saul Thompson. She is survived by daughters, Cindy Laird (Al), and Vicky Nash (Billy); sons, Dennis Mitchell (Geriann), and Keith Mitchell (Carol); granddaughters, Kim Bedford (Mark), Stephanie Spiewak (Jackie), Stacy Hopper (Lance), Kelly Tilley (Ryan), and Kalyn Carter (Austin); grandsons, Cameron Mitchell (Carrie), Alan E. Laird Jr. (Tosha), and Nathan Delaware (April); great-granddaughters, Brooke Bedford and Sara Jane Hopper; great-grandsons, Brice Bedford (Mariah), Parker Boles (Raina), Ryan Hopper, William Mitchell, Jackson and Hudson Spiewak, Winston and Owen Tilley, and Henry Delaware; sister, Jan Hensley; brother, Charles Thompson (Paula); sisters-in-law, Betty Thompson, Carolyn Nobles (Wade), and Vonteen Brown (Joel); and many loved nieces and nephews and close friends. Vernice will be buried in East Tennessee and a Celebration of Life in Pensacola, Florida will be held at a later date. Pall bearers are AJ Laird, David Crabtree, Jackie Hensley, Chase Hensley, Steve Humphreys, and Melvin Holmes.
