Elizabeth A. Schweiger

Betty was 92 years and 10 months old. She died peacefully at home in Panama City, FL. She was born in Escambia County and was raised in Century, FL. As an adult, she relocated to Pensacola, where she spent all but the last two years of her wonderful life. She worked for many years at Delchamps and A&P as a cashier. She later remarried and raised her children in Central Baptist Church where she was very involved in her church work as Sunday School Director and Teacher and W.M.U. Director. Since 1995, she has been a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, serving as a teacher and working with the Friendly Fellowship Group. Betty loved people and made friends easily. One of her greatest joys was a smile and a hug from a friend. She believed that a sincere hug could heal a hurt. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Herbert A. Schweiger Sr., J.B. Tucker and C.E. Purvis; her oldest son, James E. Purvis; granddaughters, Suzanne Silaz and Andrea Purvis; grandson, Jimmie M. Broxton III; brothers, John Hendley and Wesley Cobb; sister, Elizabeth Bazo and step-daughter, Tina Murphy. She is survived by her children and step-children, Jeanne Purvis Silaz, John Tucker (Jeanne), Ed Tucker (Rennee), Herbert (Rudy) Schweiger (Tammy), Diana Banas (John), Melody Janik (Joe) and Harry Davis (Donna) and grandsons, Carey Purvis, Kevin Purvis, and Timothy Purvis; granddaughters, Bridget Barnes (Charlie), Elisa Purvis Castle (Steve), Jessica Robinson (Joe), Ashley Biswas (Apratim), John, Jason and Nannette Banas, Michael & Kristy Janik, Meghan Thompson and Berthweiger; devoted nephew, Michael Boutwell (Hazel); and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be ladies of her Sunday School class “Joy” and my dear friend Charlotte Nix. In lieu of flowers she requested contribution be made to to Lakeview Baptist Church or American Heart Association. All services will be at Lakeview Baptist Church,1100 W. Michigan Avenue, Pensacola, 32505, Wednesday January 14th with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 followed by the funeral service at 2:00.
