Eleanor Ruth Wickers

Eleanor Ruth Morgan Wickers left this earth for an eternity in Heaven on June 27, 2020 as her husband, Richard, sat by her side. She affectionately referred to him as "My Richard," because, as she would say," God gave him to me." She passed away one day after their 10th anniversary. She was born and raised in Miami, Florida, moving to Pensacola after her high school graduation. Her first job was at the Credit Union of Pensacola, where she worked for several years. During that time she was a member of The Revival Center Church. She later joined Brownsville Assembly of God Church where she taught Children's Sunday School, sang in the Choir and performed as a Soloist. Eleanor was about 28 years old, when she had the opportunity to move to California. She lived in San Leandro and was a member of the Faithaven Bible Chapel, where she was the Theatrical Director, taught Young Adults Sunday School, sang in the choir and performed solos. She would say, "I never forgot my mother's words, "Eleanor, if you're not careful living so far from home, you will grow away from your family." She took those words to heart and always came home to Pensacola twice a year. Eleanor worked in the billing department at Providence Hospital in Oakland, CA for 20 yrs. She retired for the first time in 1988 and returned home to Pensacola, to be with her family. She went to work at the Naval Air Station Supply Center, where, for the second time, she retired in 1998 from Federal Civil Service. Her last employment was as a Navy contactor for the Personal Property Office onboard NAS Pensacola. She retired for the last time in 2010, when she married Richard. She was a current member of Pace Assembly of God Church. It was at Pace Assembly that she met Richard. They had a whirlwind courtship of six months, and were married in the fellowship hall with Pastor Joey Rodgers facilitating. She wore a long candlelight lace dress with a sweetheart neckline. Richard was in a blue suit with a smile on his face. Her nephew, Clifford Perry, escorted her down the aisle. She looked just beautiful! Eleanor had a long and rewarding life and was a true follower of Jesus Christ and an inspiration to her family. She was a prayer warrior and diligently prayed for her family and friends. She lived a life of joy and always had a smile, uplifting words and lived her faith. She loved to sing to her nieces and nephews and tell funny jokes. She never met a stranger and always stopped to compliment parents on their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Stella Morgan, her sister, Betty Morgan, her brother, Lowell Morgan and her sister, Iris Holliman. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Wickers; her sister, Opal Box; her two nephews and four nieces: Clifford (Fran) Perry, Milton Morgan, Sharon (Tom) Cacciatore, Teresa Pugh, Janis Sanders and Ruth (Tim) Nichols. She loved all of her great nieces and nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews. Eleanor was very loved by her family and friends. She will truly be missed. She is in the arms of Jesus, so we know we will see her again. There will be a processional leaving Faith Chapel Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2020 to a graveside service at Barrancas National Cemetery with Pastor Steve Zepp officiating.
