Edwin Enrique Font Cruz

Aviation Ordnanceman Petty Officer First Class Edwin E. Font Cruz, 40, passed away Thursday April 1, 2021. Edwin was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend and mentor that was taken from us far too soon. He was born August 1, 1980 in Rincon, Puerto Rico to Edwin E. Font and Aurea Cruz. To know Edwin, you couldn’t help but love him as he always had a smile on his face. He had a joke to turn any smile into a laugh and a deep sense of loyalty to all he considered family. He was a true outdoorsman who loved anything adventurous, from hiking, biking, 5k obstacles courses, and riding motorcycles. His love of motorcycles led him to join the AfterMath club in Jacksonville, FL which he truly missed as his career in the Navy took him around the world. Edwin lived his life, leaving positive examples in his wake and he bought out the best in people. More than anything Edwin was passionate about his family and spending time with them. He loved each of his children deeply and was so very proud of them. Ultimately, Edwin’s goal was to have his family closer together. He always expressed his love for his family and friends and they will keep the memories of his fun, always joking, having a good time, personality in their hearts. Our family will always be proud of his virtues, achievements, legacy and his unconditional love for all. Second to his family, he was extremely devoted and proud of the 15 years of military service he performed as an Aviation Ordnanceman. From early on in his career he was taught the value of discipline, teamwork, and investing in not only himself but those around him. He strived to instill those values in those around him as he advanced throughout his career. Edwin began his career with the U.S. Navy when he left for boot camp in Great Lakes, IL on January 5, 2006. Upon graduation, he reported to Aviation Ordnance (AO) A School in Pensacola FL, where he successfully graduated and began his journey to his first command, the TRIDENTS of HS-3 in July 2006. He continued his naval career with the PROUD WARRIORS HSL-42 and VP-30 in Jacksonville, FL. He was afforded the opportunity to serve overseas in Japan with HSM-77 where he worked with MH-60R helicopters embarked onboard USS George Washington (CVN 73). From there, he checked onboard to the World Famous Eight Ballers (HSC-8) in April 2015. While attached to HSC-8, he was selected as 2017 CARRIER STRIKE GROUP ELEVEN JUNIOR SAILOR OF THE YEAR (JSOY) and was meritoriously advanced to Petty Officer First Class. In December of 2019, he reported to Corry Station, Pensacola and successfully completed his Navy Instructor Training Course. He arrived at his final duty station at NETSAFA in January 2020 and assumed the position as International Military Student Officer. Petty Officer Font Cruz received many honors & letters of commendation during his service in the US Navy including; Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), Navy Marine Corps Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy “E” Ribbon (4), Navy Good Conduct Medal (4), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Ribbon, Outstanding Volunteer Ribbon (2), Navy Sea Service Ribbon (3), Navy Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (2). He was also a dedicated member of the Aviation Ordnanceman Association and was on the board directors for position Pensacola Chapter 34. IYAOYAS Edwin is survived by his wife Cynthrea Font; three children, Jaslyn Medina, Edwin Y. Font, and George Font; his parents, Edwin E. Font and Aurea Cruz; his sisters, Nubia Mar Font and Aurea K. Font; and his niece and nephew, Nahia Mar Gonzalez Font and Matthew Zair Acevedo Font as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
