Douglas Ray Smith

Douglas (Doug) Ray Smith was born on September 7, 1931 in Goldsboro, NC to Raymond Lee Smith and Nannie Mae Anderson Smith. He passed on peacefully to Heaven on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather and friend. He was quite a jokester and flirt and loved to make others laugh with every chance he got. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel special. He loved his family very much and would always call them to see how they were doing and ask if there was anything he could get for them. He was a hard worker and loved building things. He was always working on one project or another and his hands showed it. He retired after many years of service at Dave Howell Tires but had also worked with Firestone and Vannoy Tires. He was a member of GracePointe Church in Pensacola. He graduated from New Hope High School in Goldsboro, NC and had also been a member of the FFA. He enjoyed late night fishing expeditions with his best buddy, Sherrill Isbell. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Lee Smith and Nannie Mae Anderson Smith; brother, Dalton Smith; ex-wife, Peggy Smith Denner; son, Steven Smith and grandson, Alex Smith. He is survived by his brothers, Dan (Janice) Smith; Alton (Wanda) Smith; Jarvis (Dean) Smith; sisters, Janet Smith; Dora (Charlie) Snow; Sandra (James) Roberts; son, Danny Smith (Deborah Greene-friend); daughters, Kim Williamson; Cindy (Ernie) Boardwyne; 8 grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael (Julie), Benjamin, Justin, Brandon, David (Nichole), Jennifer, Jamie (Tyler); 9 great grandchildren, Kayleigh, Alexander, Alicia, Austin, Faith, Joy, Summer, Samson and Kinleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Lynda and Sherrill Isbell for all the love and special care you have always given him. Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with pastor, Sherrill Isbell, officiating. Burial will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at the funeral home.
