Dorothy Ann Terry

Dorothy C. Terry, 91, formerly of Monroeville, Alabama passed away peacefully on October 26 in Pensacola, Florida. Dot spent a lifetime cultivating generations of children, grandchildren and a great grandchild. As the matriarch of the family, she will be remembered for her helpful, supportive and direct demeanor that nourished the next generations to be better than the one before. Raised as the only child of Inez Lovett (Reeser) Crutchfield and Jesse Crutchfield, Dot graciously shared her southern hospitality to make sure all that entered, were made to feel at home, and were extremely well fed! A talented, self-taught cook, Dot knew how to fill a table and tummies with her delicious home-cooked meals and later shared her skills with the communities she lived in while writing her own cookbook. From her humble beginnings in Monroeville, Alabama, she met and married Neal Owen Terry and together they relocated to his post at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia with the United States Army. Dot and Neal subsequently started a family with their first-born child, Leigh Ann (Terry) Bradley, followed by Susan Elise (Terry) Pareigis and Neal Owen Terry, Jr. While Neal pursued his productive engineering career, Dot successfully created beautiful, loving homes in Pensacola, Florida; Greenwood, South Carolina; and St. Louis, Missouri. They subsequently retired to their beloved Pensacola, Florida with relocation to Azalea Trace, adjacent to the campus of UWF, in their later years. During each of the relocations, Dot thrived professionally as an Executive Assistant to Congressman William Jennings Bryan Dorn of South Carolina, in the Chesterfield School District in St. Louis and in the Executive Office of the President at the University of West Florida. Dots Grandchildren remember her welcoming them with big hugs and listening intently to what was going on in their lives. Without fail, she would call to ask what cakes they would each like her to make for Christmas, and she was always happy to oblige. Dot was a lifelong learner, and in her 80’s she applied her knowledge of shorthand to new technologies and delighted her grandchildren with text messages and emails from her phone. Throughout her entire life she was a keen thinker, with a clearly defined memory; she enjoyed a witty sense of humor and was fastidious. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, husband and oldest daughter. She is survived by adult children Susan Elise (Terry) Pareigis (Michael) and Neal Owen Terry, Jr. and her grandchildren, Michael Timothy Bradley (Cassie), David Neal Bradley, Anne Elise (Bradley) Baddorek (Jim), Jennifer Leigh Pareigis, Jessica O’Hara Terry and great grandson, Michael Xristos Filoqi. Visitation and graveside services will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery located at the Naval Air Station (NAS), 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, Florida at 10:30 am on Friday, November 18, 2022. The funeral procession will depart Olive Baptist Church, Parking Lot, located at 103 West Winthrop Avenue, Pensacola, Florida at 10 am.
