Dorothy "Nellie" Price

Dorothy Nell (Nellie) Price was born on April 1, 1919 and stepped into the presence of Her blessed Savior on September 12, 2021 at the age of 102 years. She passed peacefully with her son Phillip and daughter Rebekah at her side. She was born in Decatur, Alabama to Cornelia and Tom Prosser. Graduated from Decatur High School in 1937. She married Dolphus Price on June 8, 1940. She was a wonderful mother of five children. At the time of her passing she was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida. Ms. Nellie and her husband served the Lord together for 64 years in many states and in different roles. Dr. Price was a pastor and evangelist. As they travelled together, Mrs. Price would mentor and help many wives of pastors and encourage them in their roles as wives, mothers and helpers in the ministry. She was what is often called a “Prayer Warrior.” She prayed for hundreds of pastors, their wives and families daily. She was an encourager and helper for her husband. They began their life together at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois. They served in churches in Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and Pennsylvania in the pastorate. Their two longest ministries were in Pensacola with Brent Baptist Church and later with the Faith Baptist Church. Her wonderful life of dedication to her Lord began at the age of 11 in August of 1930 when she received the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior. She was baptized in the Tennessee River just a short distance from the place where her grandfather was baptized. As a young girl she gave herself to be a missionary. As an older teen she was part of a group of young people who desired to serve the Lord. They called themselves The Gospel Team. This group would go to other churches ministering and it was on one of these trips she met Dolphus Price while they were conducting a service at the First Baptist Church of Falkville, Alabama. What began that night in a gospel service lasted until his passing February 10, 2004. Her testimony of love for the Savior and her faithful life are a challenge for all. Truly her testimony is that of the Apostle Paul given in 2Ti 4:7-8: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing”. She finished her course on Sunday, September 12, 2021. She entered the gates of the city and now is in the presence of the Lord she loved and is reunited with many loved ones. She was welcomed into the “everlasting habitation” of heaven. Mrs. Nellie was a mother of five, Bradley Price now deceased, his wife Madell; Phillip Price and his wife Linda; Donnie Price now deceased; David Price and his wife Frances; Rekekah Price Mills and her husband Joseph. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelia and Tom Prosser, her husband Dolphus Price, her sons Bradley Price and Donnie Price, and great granddaughter Morgan Wetherbee. She is survived by her sons Phillip, David and daughter Rebekah. She is also survived by her sixteen grandchildren, forty-three great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, September 17, 2021, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, at Smyrna Baptist Church. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM. Bill Adams, David Price and Frank Garlock will be officiating. Interment will be at Lakewood Memory Gardens, Chattanooga, TN. Faith Chapel Funeral Home South, 100 Beverly Parkway, Pensacola, is entrusted with arrangements.
