Devie Liza Harris

In memory of our dearly beloved, Devie Liza Harris passed away, after a long battle with cancer, on Sunday, October 7th at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. She spent her last breath surrounded by the love of friends and family. Devie was born May 11, 1956 in Bingawan, IloIlo City Philippines to Juanito and Barbara (Derecho) Liza. She was one of 12 children and enjoyed being part of a large family. She longed to have a large family of her own, but after having her first daughter, then several miscarriages, her hope dwindled. In 1990 Devie had what she’d always refer to as her “miracle” baby, second daughter; Barbara "Grace" Franko. Devie was a loving mother and although she never had more children of her own, she was like a mother to many. In 2007 Devie, found love again, married Ricky Harris and they enjoyed 12 happy years of marriage. Ricky stood by her side through everything and she passed with him still by her side. “The best way to describe her was that she had love for God, her husband, family, friends, her dog; buttercup, and enjoyed singing & gardening which was what filled her life with joy.” Devie was the kind of person who gave what she had and still wanted to give more. She was a woman of extraordinary faith and was always caring for others. In 2012, Devie was diagnosed with cancer. Ricky and Devie decided that her retiring and staying home was the best course of action for her recovery. Devie’s days were spent in and out of the hospital, volunteering with her church (Washington ACOP), gardening, and flying to visit with her children. She enjoyed traveling, whether it was to Arizona and Seattle to visit with her daughters, or Vancouver BC to see her brother-in-law. Some visits were shared with her children and grandchildren while still squeezing in doctors’ visits with cancer specialists. She said that all she wanted was to extend her life so that she could spend more time with her family. Devie was a devoted wife and loving mother who lived her life with unwavering strength, courage, faith, and grace. She is survived by her husband; Ricky Harris, daughter; Barbara Franko, 2 grandchildren, 2 son-in-laws, 2 sister-in-laws, 1 brother-in-law, 9 siblings, 47 nieces and nephews, and dog; Buttercup.
