David Scott Love III

Chief Petty Officer David Scott Love, III, U. S. Navy (Retired), age 72, of Pensacola, Florida, and formerly of Brentwood, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023, peacefully with his wife by his side. Mr. Love was born March 4, 1951, in Durham, North Carolina, the son of the late David Scott Love, Jr. and Irene Virginia (Frye) Love. He attended Franklin High School in Franklin, Tennessee. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving honorably for 23 years. While serving with the Navy, he traveled to numerous countries and many stateside locations. He was a Machinist Mate Chief (Surface Warfare Specialist). He was a part of the Vietnam Conflict and Persian Gulf War. He earned six service deployment medals, and was also a Company Commander while serving at Orlando Naval Training Center in Orlando, Florida. He was very proud of his military career and could tell you about it down to the years, months, and days that he served! He was a humorous story teller, he brought a smile to everyone around him. He could tell you about almost every movie ever made, loved watching TCM, enjoyed fishing, shopping, and was an avid collector of many kinds of things. He had a mischievous grin, wicked sense of humor, and a zest for life! David is survived by his wife, Melanie Elizabeth Love (Watts); his son, David S. Love IV; daughter, Melanie R Love; step son, Joseph S. Reyes; and step daughter, Haley Reyes; grandchildren, Lily, Emma, David V, Justin, Madilynn, Jacen, Jamie and McKenzie; brother, Michael D. Love (Laura); sister, Cathy Love Grant (Gerald); as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. David is preceded in death by his parents, David S. Love, Jr. and Irene V. Love (Frye) and his sister, Susan Love Nix (Gary). A Celebration of Life was held Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South, Pensacola, Florida. Interment followed in Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, Florida.
