Christine Morrison Morton 1930-2016 Christine Morrison Morton, 85, entered Heaven’s gates on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Covenant Hospice Inpatient & Palliative Care Center, after suffering a major stroke two weeks earlier. Christine was born in El Paso, Texas on April 23, 1930, the first child of William Warner Morrison and Panda Booker Morrison. She grew up in Monroeville and Burnt Corn, Alabama. She began working at an early age to help provide for her brothers and sisters in her large family. She was introduced to Lloyd Morton by her sister, Frances and brother-in-law, Cecil. She married Lloyd Morton on February 16, 1949 in Lucedale, Mississippi. Lloyd and Christine lived in various places, including Mobile and Fairhope. The couple raised three children and moved to Pensacola in 1967 for Lloyd to work at NAS, after he was transferred there from his job in Mobile, where he worked as a civil service welder. She was retired from the “WEE CENTER”, an Early Education Center at West Pensacola Baptist Church, where she enjoyed working with children and making a difference in young lives. After retirement, she kept active and worked with the Council on Aging, never meeting a stranger. She also volunteered her time at the Felix Senior Center making lap quilts for cancer patients. She was an active member of New Beginnings Baptist Church. Mrs. Morton is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lloyd “Lightning” Morton; and two brothers, Bill Morrison and Dale Morrison. She is survived by children, Barbara (John) Cotton, Harold (Karen) Morton, and Barry (Missy) Morton; grandchildren, Candy, Rachel, Daniel, Crystal, Barry Lee, and Lizzie; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Macee, and Vivian; sisters, Frances Harper, Dot Smith, Mattie Peavy, Lois White; brothers, Robert Morrison and Woody Morrison; nieces and nephews and numerous other family members. Pallbearers will be Barry Lee Morton, Hunter Davis, Josh Benton, Keith Nelson, and Zack Schultz. Honorary pallbearer will be Daniel Morton. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 12:00 until the 1:00 pm funeral service at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with burial to follow at Myrtle Grove Cemetery.
