Charley Houston Kennedy

Charley Houston Kennedy, age 86, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Willowbrook of Azalea Trace in Pensacola, FL. The family will be having a Celebration of Life later this year. Charley is survived by his four daughters: Charlsie Evans (James) of Pensacola, FL, Marjorie Mortensen (Robert) of Ellington, MO, Peggy Keith (Scott) of Pensacola, FL, and Katrina Goldberger (James) of Concord, NC; 14 grandchildren: Christopher, Nichole, Caleb, Joshua, Vanessa, Ross, Nicolas, Gabriel, Morgan, Rachel, Rebecca, Ryan, Jennifer, & Joseph; and his 19 great-grandchildren: Chasity, Jacob, Rowan, Bastion, Story, Adao, Ayla, Kendall, Leland, Landen, Matthew, Trenton, Grayson, Lincoln, Zoey, Logan, Charley, Clayton, Nevaeh, Simon, & Sydney; and several other nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Charley is also survived by his second wife; Patricia Chapman (nee Grant), his step-son Tyler Chapman (Ann) of Pensacola, FL; his step-daughter: Tricia Andrews of Pensacola, FL; six grandkids: Megan, Kia, Halen, Chad, Charity, & Mallory; great-grandkids: Korbin; and others. Charley was born in Houston, MS on August 10, 1936 to Charley Jackson & Minnie Jane Kennedy. He graduated as the class president from Woodland High School in 1957 where he also played football and basketball. On April 12, 1957 he married his sweetheart, Jo Ellen Morgan. They were happily married until her death on August 23, 2000. While married to Jo, he faithfully served our country in the US Navy. After 32 years of service, he retired as a CWO4. He then spent time working as a title clerk for Carpenter’s Campers. Charley was also a business owner. Jo and her sister, Judy Fountain, successfully ran Busy Bee Child Care for 20 years. Charley & Jo were very active members of Bellview Baptist Church. He played many roles in the church and gave generously of his time and talents to many service projects. On March 10, 2001, Charley married his second wife, Patricia Chapman (TC). His family grew even larger that day. Charley was able to spend his retirement years traveling around and exploring with TC. He became involved in various community services at the churches they attended. Charley & TC also spent a great deal of time giving back to the people of Azalea Trace by volunteering in Trace’s Treasurers. Charley was an active man who loved working in his garden, creating various leather or wooden projects, researching his ancestry, and collecting coins. He was loved by his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed. Charley is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his sister (Sybil Bray), and many others.
