Catherine Ann Hill Mullen

Catherine "Cathy" Ann Hill Mullen, 87, of Pensacola, FL passed peacefully on July 7, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Duane D. Mullen; son-in-law, Joel Sartain; parents, Dixie and lda Catherine (Thompson) Hill, and siblings, Edith, Willie, Ella, Bessie, Anna, Bruce, and Nellie. She is survived by her four children; daughters, Terry Sartain and Fay Stokes (Steve); sons, David Mullen (Sandi) and Patrick Mullen (Rene'); grandchildren, Chris Sartain (Nicole), LCDR Brandon Sartain ( LCDR Kara), Briana Wigley (David), Duane Mullen (Jacqueline), Amanda Clark ( AF Major Bart ), Stefanie Forte (Joseph), Shawn Mullen, DMD (Cami), Chelsi Mullen, Nici Mullen; 11 great grandchildren (soon to be 12), and many nieces and nephews. Cathy was born in Maddox, MD, the youngest of 8 children. She graduated from Margaret Brent High School in Mechanicsville, MD, where she was senior class president, business manager of the yearbook staff and lettered in many sports. Cathy received her BS in Management from UWF Pensacola, FL on August 2, 1986. This degree was useful in her 25-year career as an HR Professional at Air Products, where she made many lifelong friends. Cathy met Duane, the love of her life, while he was stationed at Patuxent River, MD. Their mutual love of dancing led to 65 wonderful years together. As a Navy wife for 30 years, she enjoyed making a home for her family while stationed in Maryland, Louisiana, Japan, lllinois, and Florida. Cathy and Duane enjoyed music and dancing at Evenings in Olde Seville Square. She loved to decorate for the holidays, especially Christmas, and was very proud of their Dickens Village. They liked to travel, with Jerusalem being the highlight of their adventures, attending plays at Pensacola Little Theater and trips to Biloxi. Cathy enjoyed working in her yard, as evident by her numerous "Yard of the Month" awards while living in Great Lakes, lL. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff and caregivers at lnspiritas of Pensacola, Covenant Hospice, Gulf Coast Mobile Medical, and Granny Nannies for their kindness, compassion and care given to our Mom over the last year. Visitation will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 10:00am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am with interment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Chris Sartain, Brandon Sartain, Duane Mullen, Shawn Mullen, Joseph Forte, David Wigley, and Bart Clark. ln lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Covenant Care Hospice, Pensacola, FL, Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Fl or a charity of your choice.
