Carl Henry Jackson, Sr

Carl H. “Jack” Jackson, Sr., beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 23, 2021, in Pensacola, FL. Carl, was born in Denison, TX. Carl had 2 brothers and 3 sisters, living in Texas and Oklahoma. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18 and is a Veteran of 31 years of Honorable Service. With the love of Photography he learned in High School, he enlisted as a Photographers Mate. In 1965, while stationed in Washington, D.C., he met and married, in 1966, the love of his life, Rosemary, where she worked for the Department of Commerce. Carl is a Vietnam Veteran (1966 – 1967). During his Naval career he was stationed: Washington, D.C. (1963 – 1966) U.S.S. Ticonderoga (CVA/CVS-14) (1966 – 1967) “Operation Deep Freeze” - Expeditionary Deployment to the South Pole in Antarctica (1967 – 1968 & 1968 – 1969) (Two separate 6 month tours) Antarctic Development Squadron 6, Exeter, Rhode Island (1969 – 1971) Recruiting Duty in Houston, Texas (1971 – 1973), U.S.S. Sperry (AS-12), Pt. Loma, CA (1973 - 1976) FICPAC (Fleet Intelligence Center, Pacific) in Hawaii (1976 – 1980) U.S.S. Coral Sea (CV-43), Alameda, CA (1980 – 1984) U.S.S. Ranger (CV-61), Bremerton, WA and San Diego, CA (1984 – 1986) Naval School of Photography in Pensacola, FL (1986 – 1990) U.S.S. Kitty Hawk (CV-63), San Diego, CA (1990 – 1994) During his tour “Operation Deep Freeze” with the Antarctic Development Squadron 6 to the South Pole in Antarctica, he liked to say he walked around the earth in four steps. During his service he was awarded: National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star Vietnam Service Medal Vietnam Campaign Medal Republic of Vietnam with Gallantry Cross Republic of Vietnam Forces of Meritorious Unit Citation Antarctica Service Medal Navy Unit Commendation Navy Expert Pistol Shot Medal with Silver “E” Navy Expeditionary Medal Navy Commendation Medal Meritorious Unit Commendation with Bronze Star Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Silver Star Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star Third Good Conduct Award Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Joint Meritorious Unit Award Navy “E” Ribbon Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star Carl rose through the enlisted ranks to the rank of Chief Petty Officer and in 1983 he was commissioned as a Chief Warrant Officer. Eventually retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer Four (CWO4). After many moves during his career in the Navy, Carl and his wife, Rosemary, decided to drop anchor in Pensacola, FL. He then began his 2nd career with the Veteran Administration at the VA Clinic in Pensacola. He took great care in making sure his fellow Veterans were able to get the equipment and services that were needed. He retired from the VA after 12 years of faithful service. Carl was an active member of his Church, Little Flower Catholic Church. He was a Founding member of the Little Flower Knights of Columbus Chapter, serving as Founding Deputy Grand Knight, Grand Knight. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosemary, his two sons, Carl Jr. and Alan, Daughter-in-law, Michelle (married to Carl Jr.) his two grandchildren, Nicholas and Alyssa, and his Sisters, Bernice and Betty.
