Betty Rose Pursell

Betty Rose Labrato Pursell, 82 of Pensacola, Florida, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, after a year long battle with melanoma. Born January 7, 1932, she was a life long resident of Pensacola, attended St. Michael School and graduated in 1949 from Pensacola Catholic High School. She retired from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department after 34 years of service in the Civil Division. She has completed her earthly tasks and was called by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to accept his heavenly peace. She suffers no more. She is home. After retirement, most of her time was spent in service of others and in dedication to her family. Mom enjoyed local baseball, softball and volleyball and was ever present at any ball field or other event in which her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved. Mom gave of her time and talents to the community by volunteering for several service organizations as well as at St. Mary Catholic Church. Mom enjoyed gardening, ceramics, jigsaw puzzles, sewing, cooking, her pets, music and travel. As a mom, a grandma, a great-grandma, an aunt and a friend, she touched the lives of many. Mom will be remembered for her strength and unselfish love she gave to all that knew her and for her never-ending commitment to her family and to her faith as a “cradle Catholic”. She will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie, her parents, Joe and Anna Mae Labrato and her sister, Evelyn Williamson. She is survived by four children, Scooter (Karon), Debbie (Jim Kelly), Brien (Nancy) and Mark (Tricia), her six grandchildren, Mike (Shannon), Leigh (Scott Frederick), Mark, Katherine, Meghan (TC Brown), and Kristen (Frankie Pesce) and her four great-grandchildren, Breanna, Hayden, Abigail, and Kayla. There are many other nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved dearly. She also leaves behind her beloved Pomeranian, Gipsi. Pall bearers will be her sons, son-in-law, grandsons and great-grandson. Visitation will be held in the St. Mary Catholic Church Parish Hall on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 9:00 AM until 9:50 AM, followed by the funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens. If you would like to join the funeral procession to the cemetery but do not wish to attend Mass, please arrive at the church parking lot by 10:45 AM.
