Betty Ann Darden

Betty Darden, 82, of Pensacola, Fl. passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018. Betty was born October 12, 1936 in Pollard, Alabama. She was a 1954 graduate of Pensacola High School, Pensacola, Fl. Betty retired in 2002 from Sprint, located outside of Washington, D.C. where she was a financial analyst and returned to Pensacola. Betty was an ordained Deacon in the Community of Christ Church (formerly named Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). She and Priest Duane Ingram was appointed to the “Abolish Poverty, End Suffering Initiative” where they provided a clothes closet for those who were in need and called on the congregation to donate food to donate to the families in the neighborhood. She loved to travel, embroidery, and quilt. She, her good friend, Carolyn Langham and cousin Wilma Urbaniak would spend many hours making quilts for friends and family. She loved her family. She loved the children who attended the Jesus & Me club at the church on Wednesday nights. She “adopted” a family from the children who came on Wednesday nights and supported them by making sure they had the appropriate school supplies and clothes for school, food for Thanksgiving, and something for Christmas. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Emmette & Sammy Lane Tolbert, and her two husbands, Phil R. Grasty, Sr. and Donald R. Darden.; She is survived by her four children: Elizabeth Ann Killen (David) of Arlington, TX, Phil R. Grasty, Jr. (Cindy) of Elizabeth City, NC, Sandra Jean Blackwell (Danny) of Hope Mills, NC and Ronald R. Grasty, of Pensacola ; one brother, Thomas C. Tolbert (Avis) and one sister (Dorothy Jean Tolbert Cook), both of Pensacola; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2018 at The Community of Christ Church located on the corner of Jackson & “T” Streets with graveside services to follow at 1:30 p.m. aboard NAS Pensacola at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests you to make donations to a charity of your choice. FAITH CHAPEL SOUTH on Beverly Parkway is entrusted with arrangements.
