Austin Manning Hitt

Austin Manning Hitt went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 19th 2013. He was loved by many and will be fondly remembered by friends and family. He was born on January 31st, 1938 to Amos Austin and Evelyn Windam Hitt in Boligee, AL. At the age eleven his family moved to Pensacola, FL. As a child and young man Manning loved all types of sports. He was a member of the 1950 Pensacola Little League Team that participated in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. At Pensacola High School he played center on the football team. In 1953 he was the starting center on the Florida State Championship team and was named All State. Manning played football at Marion Military Institute, where he was designated All American, and Tennessee Tech University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in education. Later he completed a Master of Science Degree in Education from Troy State University. He moved back to Pensacola and joined the Escambia School System where he served as a teacher, coach and administrator for 30 years. After retiring he was able to follow his life-long passions of fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Manning is survived by his wife of 49 years Diana Young Hitt, his children Austin (Sheila) Hitt and David (Mary) Hitt, grandchildren Manning (Little Manning), Rachael and Josh, his brother Charles (Janett) Hitt and sister-in-law Linda Y. Reed. Manning wanted to extend special thanks to Dr. Dissanayake and the staff at the Sacred Heart Cancer Center and the 6th floor south nurses and staff at West Florida Hospital. Visitation will be held at Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. The funeral service will be held July 25, 2013 at 10:00 am at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. Pall bearers are Ireland Brock, Harold Holder, Keith Leonard, Judson Livingston, Sonny Manning, and Tommy Rogers and Honorary Pallbearers are members of the 1953 Pensacola High School State Championship Football team. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Leukemia Society of America or charity of choice. FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME NORTH, 1000 Hwy 29 South, Cantonment, FL is in charge of arrangements.
