Arthur Lee Jones, Sr. February 16, 1922 October 10, 2017 Arthur Lee Jones, Senior, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, in Covenant Hospice of Northwest Florida at West Florida Hospital. Our father was a WW II veteran and received the Purple Heart while serving as a Pharmacist Mate, 1st Class, USNR, in the battle of Iwo Jima. Upon Honorable discharge from the military, Art returned home to begin making a life with his new wife and daughters, and together, they had five more children. Our father provided support, love, and guidance, with a strong dose of self-reliance. Art retired as a General Foreman, from Armstrong Cork Corp. after 38 years of employment, where he not only served as a supervisor but family mentor to the many young men and women working under him. Retirement allowed him to pursue his love of hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an avid hunter his entire life. He was a founding member of the Cobb Branch Hunting Club in Jay, Fla., and neighbors viewing his large garden down on Cypress Street, referred to it as the “atomic garden” for the size and bounty it contained. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas D. Jones and Lula Matkins Jones, of Ironton, Missouri, and his wife of 60 years, Doris Elouise Jones, his daughter, Margaret Louise Jones, and her son, Brian Jones, all from Pensacola. Survivors include six children, Dorothy Burkett, Pat Ellis (John W.), Arthur L. Jones, Jr. (Jeanne), Tom Jones (Lee Ann), Mary Exum (Kenith), and John M. Jones (Margaret), along with 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a very special son-in-law, Richard M. Jones. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, October 15, from 5-7 PM at Faith Chapel, 100 Beverly Parkway, followed by the funeral service on Monday, October 16, at 10.30 AM, also at Faith Chapel. Reverend Jeffrey Spooneybarger will be officiating, with interment to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mr. Jones’ grandsons, Mark Heath, Sean Ellis, Thomas Jones II, Richard Jones, Jr., Christopher Jones, and Jacob Exum. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Guman and Virgil Myrick. A very special thanks to caregivers, Mikki Garza, Marianne Dutton-Comeau, Kim Johnson, and Becky Garza for the devotion and dedication to our father’s care that allowed him to remain in his own home until his death.
