Anthony "Tony" Privett

Anthony Eugene Privett (Tony), 53, of Pensacola, passed away at West Florida Hospital Covenant Care surrounded by family on Sunday, February 19th 2023. Tony was born on December 9th 1969, to Gene and Wanda Privett, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Soon after birth, Tony was diagnosed with an extremely rare condition called Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome (WHS), which was very disabling. Due to WHS, Tony didn’t walk or talk his entire life, it also affected his intellectual ability. However, through all the health, physical and mental challenges Tony faced over the years, his normal mode of operation was happy and smiling. As a youngster, Tony really enjoyed participating in programs that were both fun and therapeutic. He especially liked summer day camp at “Camp Stepping Stones” and “Special Olympics” sports. Family camping trips and holiday gatherings were also filled with joy and laughter. In 1983, Tony moved with his family from Cincinnati, Ohio to Pensacola, Florida. At the age of 15, Tony became a resident of Northview Community. Then as he needed more skilled nursing, Tony moved to The Pensacola Cluster in 1990 and remained a resident there since then. During his years at The Cluster, Tony became family with roommates, residents and staff alike. They did so many things together over the years. Their activities including trips to places like Atlanta, hockey games, the Pensacola Interstate Fair, the zoo and many more. Tony was always “all in” for a fun adventure. Some of Tony’s favorite things in life were tossing a ball, listening to music (loud), interacting with people and he could always be found holding an adored stuffed fury friend (teddy bear, dog or monkey just to name a few). Tony couldn’t do many things that other people take for granted every day. Some people looked at him and that’s what they saw - the things he couldn’t do. But that’s not what we saw, and that’s not who Tony was. We seldom saw what he couldn’t do. No, we saw the many things Tony could do. He could smile. He could laugh. He could feel happiness. He could love without condition. Tony could show his love without ever saying a word. Not everyone has those abilities. Tony lived a life well loved Tony was preceded in death by his father, Gene Privett and sister, Angela Privett. Tony is survived by his loving mother, Wanda Privett and sisters: Tammy Smith (Stewart) and Trina Holthaus. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, March 8th 2023 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South at 2:00 PM, with a reception to follow at 3:00 PM.
