Allen Lawrence Pegram

Allen L. Pegram, age 69, passed away May 26, 2015 at Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, FL after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Lanada; two daughters, Robin Pegram Wichmann (Keith), Patricia Pegram Downing (Sean); a brother Jack E. Pegram, Sr. (Elva); and sister, Esther Pegram Miley. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Madison and Grace Wichmann, Taylor, Luke, and Cole Downing; and “George”, his Springer Spaniel, deserves a special mention, as well. Allen is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned countless medals and commendations including 2 Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star with Valor, and 3 Army Commendation with Valor medals. He was a Senior Aviator and Scout Pilot flying the OH-58 and Huey. Allen served three year-long tours in Vietnam; one tour in the Navy, one tour in the Army Infantry, and one tour as a Scout Pilot. He fought bravely in the Tet Offensive. Allen retired after serving as an instructor pilot in Ft. Hood, TX and then as a fixed wing pilot flying the DMZ in Korea. He again served his country as a civilian Quality Assurance Specialist for the US Navy in Pensacola, maintaining the Navy trainer jets: T-34’s and T-2’s. He retired after 20 years. Allen was born in Washington, DC and eventually moved to Pensacola as a young teenager where he met Lanada in school. They eventually married after a hilarious fix-up by her brothers, with whom Allen was fast friends. Allen loved God, his country, and most of all his family. He loved fishing, cars, woodworking, and had a green thumb. We will love these blueberries growing in his back yard for many years! The Vietnam War left an indelible mark on his soul, as it did many soldiers. He was so very humble about his actions and achievements; he never discussed them. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. We would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Covenant Hospice, Joyce Goldenberg facility. You loved our father and mom’s husband as if he were your own. Services will be held May 29, 2015 at 10:30 at Faith Chapel North. He will be buried, with full military honors, at Barrancas National Cemetery at 12:30 PM. FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME NORTH, 1000 S.
