Alex Carambas

Alex Carambas, 80, of Pensacola, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023. He was born in Pangasinan, Philippines, on November 2, 1942, to Brigado Carambas and Raymunda Gubantes Carambas. Alex was married to Evelyn Carambas for 20 years. A farmer’s son, he maintained a lifetime love of gardening and working the land. Alex enlisted in the U.S. Navy from the Philippines in 1962 to seek additional opportunities and a chance for a college education. Starting as a Steward, he served proudly for 30 years, first achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer and finally retiring as a Navy Officer with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Four. Alex used his GI Bill to pursue his next life goal, graduating with an associate's Degree (with Honors) from Pensacola Junior College and a Bachelor's Degree (with Honors) in Business Administration from the University of West Florida. He then worked as a Food Service Inspector and Manager for the Department of Navy at NAS Pensacola before retiring in 2014. Alex was an active Scottish Rite of Freemasonry member, volunteering throughout the Pensacola community with membership at Escambia Lodge Number 15. He enjoyed his brotherhood with his fellow Masons. Alex attained the position of Wise Master Chapter Rose Croix (2015), Commander Knights of St. Andrew (2017), Commander Council Kadosh (2022), and served as a Most Worshipful Master. He was also very proud to be “Lolo” and loved talking with his six grandchildren. Alex was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church and had a passion for cooking, singing, gardening, and spending time with his family and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Brigado and Raymunda Carambas, and sister, Juanita Gamboa. Alex is survived by his wife, Evelyn; daughters, Emily Hardin, Erica Hardin, and Carrie Carambas; sons Michael Carambas and Joel Carambas; grandchildren, Madeline Carambas, Margaret Carambas, Andres Maldonado, Xavier Maldonado, Rose Holford, and Raiden Holford. A visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South in Pensacola, Florida. Rosary will begin at 6 PM and Mason Procession and ceremony at 6:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Little Flower Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, Florida.
