Anthony Barrett "Barry" Dawson

Anthony Barrett Dawson 1946-2020 Anthony Barrett Dawson, 74 of Pensacola passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020. He was born December 10, 1946 at the Royal Naval Hospital in Gillingham, Kent, England to Juanita and Peter Dawson. The family moved back to Springfield, Missouri when Barry was four years old. Barry graduated from Glendale High School. Prior to graduation Barry joined the local Navy Reserve unit and also worked at Steak and Shake. It was there that he fell in love at first sight with Dorothy Sisco. After a year of college, his military deferment was cancelled and he went on active duty. Barry and Dorothy were married between his two tours of Viet-Nam. After discharge, Barry worked at the Springfield Zenith Television Plant setting and repairing high voltage units. At night he earned a two-year certification in data processing. It was also at this time that the family started vacationing in Pensacola every other year. After certification, Barry worked as the computer programmer for Herman Lumber Company. While at the lumber company, Barry used his GI bill to go back to school at night and then full time. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with Honors earning a BA degree in Near Eastern Antiquities. Following graduation, the family moved to Pensacola. Barry found employment with The Florida Department of Children and Families. He considered it a great privilege to be able to help the needy citizens of Escambia County. Barry retired in 2009. Barry enjoyed reading, especially mysteries. Each day he worked Sudoku and news journal word puzzles. He and Dorothy enjoyed a monthly trip to Foley, AL for shopping and eating then returning/stopping along the road from Gulf Shores. They both loved the beach. Barry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Dwayne Downing, Kenny Sisco, Dorlas Sisco and his wife, Ginger. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy; son, Michael (Julie) Dawson; daughters, Donna (Darrel) Aaron, Amanda (Brett) DeFoe, Emily (Todd) Lavallee; 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Angela Downing; brothers, Mark (Dixie) Dawson, Paul (Cecilia) Dawson; brothers-in-law, Butch (Brenda) Sisco, Rick (Penny) Sisco and Robby Sisco; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, January 4, 2021 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South beginning at 11:30 a.m. with the graveside service at 1:00 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery. Pastor Blake Nance will be officiating. Following the service please join the family for a meal at Beulah Free Will Baptist Church, 7561 Mobile Hwy, Pensacola, FL 32526.
