Obituary for Catherine Rose Haley
Sunday, February 12, 2017, was a very sad day for our family. Our Queen of Hearts, Catherine Rose Ferrell Haley, passed into heaven after God shared her with us for a short 88 years. Catherine Rose was born in Natchez Mississippi on the 16th of September, 1928. Shortly after graduating from Cathedral High School, her wedding in St. Mary’s Cathedral to her first and only love, James Guy Haley of Pensacola Florida, was presided over by the Bishop of Natchez and blessed by God. Shortly after establishing a household in Pensacola, the family grew to include four children, two sons and two daughters. Catherine Rose was one of the few women who were able to successfully balance a 28 year career, with the City of Pensacola/Escambia Data Processing, while maintaining a nurturing home environment. Often there were new faces at the dinner table, many of whom stayed for months or years and were always treated like family. Catherine Rose was preceded in death by her parents, William Albert and Ella Louise Ferrell, her sister Mary Louise Ferrell Wiggins, her brothers, William Thomas Ferrell (Billy), and Robert Earl Ferrell, her sons, James Newton Haley (Jimmy) and Harry Thomas Haley, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Busby Haley. Catherine Rose is survived by her husband, James Guy Haley (Jimmy), daughters, Patricia Haley Westfall (Robin) and Tammie Haley McCracking (Tom), sisters, Ella French Ferrell Atkins and Mary Ann Bebe Wells, and sister-in-law, Hazel Hampton Ferrell. Catherine Rose (Nanny) is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Throughout the 70 years of their marriage, Catherine Rose proved to be an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, a true friend, and loving example to all whose lives she touched. She was one of God’s earthly angels, and deserved the title “Southern Belle”, in every positive sense. Our loss is only tempered by the knowledge that she will be watching over us from heaven, and waiting to greet us when we meet again. Pallbearers: Patrick Haley, Reed Clapper, Reed Clapper II, CJ McCracking, Caden Hanner, and Richard Forsyth. Honorary Pallbearers: Robert Carnley, Dalton Clark, and Cody McCracking. Visitation will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 100 Beverly Parkway, Pensacola Florida, Wednesday, February 15th 4:00-5:00 p.m. family viewing; 5:00-7:00 p.m. guest viewing, with the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 5200 Saufley Field Road, Pensacola FL 32526 Thursday, February 16th at 10:00 a.m., Father George Sammut will be officiating. A funeral procession to Barrancas National Cemetery will depart St. Anne’s Catholic Church promptly following the Mass.
